Ugly graphics all of a sudden!? ugh - what now, another bug!?

Yup - second major glitch in 24 hours!!
After reinstalling my game I get ugly graphics.. If i don't want sims1'ish terrain then I all of a sudden need to turn on advanced shaders which I've  never used before because it makes my game slow. Also nomatter WHAT I do the water looks like the lowest possible.

I just can't take all these bugs anymore ;(  Theres always something new thats destroying my game ;(

Every time a new SP or EP is installed my graphic settings get changed.  I now keep a sticky note with the info of how my settings are the way I like them.  Once I install I have to go put the correct settings back, exit the game and restart.  So, if you changed your settings, you have to exit and restart. 

I also didn't need to have the box checked for advanced rendering turned on but now I do.  I have my draw distance turned to med and high detail lots set to 1.  Tree detail is med as is lighting and shadows.  Reflection quality is mirrors and water (not super water).  Everything else is set to high or very high.  That helped keep my game up to speed and everything looking nice.  Hope that helps.  Good luck.

Thanks I can't save the file though.. When I try to, I get "access denied"  ;(  I'll just never get this game going..

I think you can do it by copying the original file and pasting it somewhere else like your Desktop, edit the copy, and then replace the original with the copy.

Chronic is right, you usually can't edit files in Program Files folders. Just drag it to your desktop, edit, and put it back when you're done. I just tried this myself.

ok now I was able to change the file.
It did'nt change a thing though.. how do they take so much money for a game thats basicly ruined from the day you buy it? Its like stealing my money..

Maybe it's just your graphic cards? If it's matching the minimum requirements it doesn't mean that the game should look crystal-clear and the grass should be very detailed, sorry.

nope its not the graphics. thing is that i just reinstalled everything. nothing new. this problem is new however. never had it before. same computer. same games. same expansions. same graphics adjustments. just a new glitch. gotta live with it.. or stop playing before my head explodes..

I've been playing the game with full graphics on this computer for a year. Then when i reinstalled yesterday this problem came around. I guess I'll try to reinstall once again.. See if that fixes it

Have you reinstalled the game or windows too? Maybe you need to update your GPU with more recent drivers? (beware nvidia 273.50 if your card is not quite recent).

What's your graphic card, if you don't mind sharing?
