Change butler traits

I've read here that you can change the butler to your need in Create A Sim after shift+clicking on him/her and choosing the option Edit Sim in Create a Sim. If I do that I got this message:

Sim must be waring one of the following outfits: Everyday, Sleepwear, Swimwear, Formalwear or Athletic.

How do I let the butler change his or her clothes first?

I think you can make him sleep or get in a tub. Then click him while he's doing that.
