Updates

I'm wondering about the updates. The current one is 1.22 or something like that right? My game is at 1.04 (installed in April) I haven't patched up since then and I only have ambitions, no cc or mods. My game says that there are no new updates and it is set on auto updates. When I try to refresh to find new updates it says "error: unable to connect to EA download manager". I think when my dad and I installed the game he set it so I cant download stuff into the game, also making me not able to patch up i think.  Any suggestions?

Thanks. It looks tricky but I'm not in front of my computer with the game right now so it might be easier later.
