Conflicting messages after game update

Okay, so I ran the update for my game in preperation of getting an installing Generations.  But now when I start the launcher, I get the message, "Your base game is incompatable with the current expansion set.  Please update your game through the game launcher." However, my game launcher says my game is up to date.  Any suggestions on how to get my base game up to date?  Or would it be easist to to a compleate uninstall of the game and reinstall from scratch after a defrag...since I haven't done one of those at all yet.
