Frequent Pausing
« on: April 07, 2011, 10:26:40 PM »
Whenever I play The Sims, every few seconds the gave pauses for 10-20 seconds. I only have HEL installed, and no CC. I'm pretty sure the problem can be fixed by uninstalling, but I don't want to do that. Is there any other way of solving it?

One thing you might check that was causing me bad lag is swap households and check the inventory and see if there is a bunch of cars there.
I checked one family and they had a total of 105 cars in there inventory between them, check another household and they had 44 cars between.
I went through switching to every family in town and ended up deleting almost 1000 cars.  :o But it help my lag a lot.

Try taking a look at this thread and cleaning your game up a bit. If it still doesn't help then you might have to reinstall, have a look at the links below for help.

Another thing that causes in-game lag on some machines are programs you're running the background. What you could try is getting rid of programs en processes that aren't necessary to run while playing the Sims. To that end it's always good of course to restart your computer as well (not sure if you're the type that restarts it once a week, if lucky, so hence I thought I'd mention it to be sure).

I have become a victim of this in my current game.  I am going to have to do a install and reinstall.  I am completely bummed.

Though I might try starting a new game.  Sally Ganza has had a few glitches besides the pausing since the beginning.

I started having this problem while in China and done some research and found mentioned that will happen if there are a bunch of stuck sims trying to go somewhere but they can't because of a pathing problem.
The suggestion I found was either search out and reset every sim that is stuck or use the global resetsim to reset everyone.
I tried the global resetsim and reset everyone and the game started running smooth again with no pauses.

Reset individual sims is resetsim firstname lastname
Reset every sim in town is resetsim *  This one resets everyone even your sims no matter what there doing so make sure you don't have any sims doing anything important , like at work or school, before using it.

It might be worth a try before reinstalling again.

Thank you grimsoul.  Using the resetsim * fixed the pausing.  :)

Thank you so much for this advice, I was having the same problem and couldn't figure out how to solve it, reset sim worked wonderfully  ;)

Could I suggest this advice gets added to the sticky about What to do if your game slows down?

Some are sharp, some are pretty,
Some are dull, some have weird names,
And all are different colors....but
They all exist very nicely in the same box.
