A couple of problems - Game crashing

So, installation and updating went down smoothly, the problems started after updating. I opened the Launcher and it kept saying "The Sims 3 has encountered a problem, and needs to close", and asked me if I wanted to send a report to Microsoft.
So, I open TS3 folder, and execute TS3.exe, and it opens successfully, I see all the presentations, and it starts to load. Just when it's around 98% - 99%, it just crashes. It simply closes, no warnings, no messages, TS3.exe just disappears. That's all. I tried reseting, and doing it several times, always with the same result.

Computer information:
Windows XP SP3
3 GB RAM
200 GB HD free
Nvidia GeForce 7100 256 MB

Craphter, first off, welcome to the forums!

Secondly, I'm so sorry to learn of the troubles you're having with regard to the game.  Your experiences sound similar to what I encountered a couple of weeks ago.  Are you, by any chance, trying to install the Deluxe edition of the game?  The one that includes Ambitions?  For me, Ambitions seems to have been the root of the problem, and you and I seem to have a few computer specs in common.

In my attempts to solve the problems I was having, I started a thread "Will my current games still play...".  I received some excellent advice and guidance, particularly with regard to manually uninstalling the game.  The bits that might pertain to you start with Reply #13 on page 2.

I hope you can get things resolved  :).  Once it's working, the game offers quite a bit of fun!

I get the same error sometimes, but then it goes right into the game.  It doesn't seem to give me problems, once the game starts.  It just started doing that last week and it pretty much does it about every other time, so I am not sure what the problem is.  I am sorry yours didn't work.  I even sent the error report, which probably didn't do much good anyway.  Good luck though. :)
