Adding Gables to Let in More Natural Light

Step 1) At the level of the second floor, build your gable walls.

Step 2) Remove the inside wall sections, and cover your walls and floors.

Step 3) With the Gable Roof tool, add a roof to each gable, making sure to attach it to the existing roof. This will automatically remove the roof section previously inside the gables allowing your bored Sims to "look out window" and allowing you to add furniture into these little niches (they make great reading or study corners).

Step 4) You can create gables of varying sizes to create the perfect farm/ranch style house.

I encourage you to take a walk around Riverview and check out everyone's barns. There are some really neat design ideas to be gathered.

I have used Attics before but mainly for Bedrooms. Lily has a great Tutorial! The Guide needs more of these Building Tutorials. We could get the Builder Members all to help out or get someone to do them like TommyT did.  :)

Lily, your tutorials were just what I was looking for. My legacy household thanks you.
I have one last question, is it possible to add attics above the four floors? Or does it act as a "floor" itself?

Attic as an Extra Story?

Roofs can be added to the top build-able story but can they function as accessible attic space?

My Sim made it all the way to the top of the stairs, no problem. So the answer is yes! The only catch: you can't place walls up there so no room divisions or gables, unfortunately.

*Special Note: There are 5 stories plus the attic because a house built on a foundation can be 4 stories tall (5 "levels"), so without a foundation = 5 stories!

Woot! :D Thank you so much for checking it, Lily! This means we can have nine stories in one house, if including the four story underground basement.

Just a sec. So what is the initial maximum count of floors allowed in game? Four or five? I thought it was four. ???

I built the maximum number of stories my game would allow in the picture above. When I try to add walls to the story that is the roof, the game tells me I ... let me check for correctness ... "can't build above highest level". You can build a foundation plus 4 stories of walls plus a roof, or 5 stories of walls plus a roof.

Ah, I see. Thank you! I think it's because all my houses have foundations, they gotta start somewhere lol. ;D
