Question about Monarch vs. King/Queen
« on: April 23, 2011, 02:45:02 AM »
Around the forum, I've seen people saying "My Queen X did this..." or "My King Y has had an issue...", so I'd like to ask if there is a difference between Monarch's and Kings/Queens?
Is this an abbreviation?
Or when your Sim reaches Level 10 as a Monarch, do they gain the title King/Queen?

We're just using King and Queen to differentiate between male and female Monarchs.  I've had only Queens so far and they are called "Lady" X.  Then at level 5, I believe, they are called Lady X the Great.  At level 10, it becomes Lady X the Illustrious.  I imagine male Monarchs are called "Lord" X.

Their title seems to vary depending on the number of territories you've annexed.  Near the end of one of my Ambitions, I hadn't been playing the Monarch recently and when the active hero went to interact with the King, I was a little surprised to see that his title came up as "Emperor Whatever-his-name-was."  I have no idea what intermediate steps there might have been between "Lord" and "Emperor," because as I say, I hadn't been playing him.

Monarch is the gender-neutral word for the leader of a kingdom, and King is male and Queen is female.  When the kingdom becomes an empire, Emperor is male and Empress is female.  But for the purposes of this game, it's all the same job.

We peaked with "Emperor Edmund the Illustrious"  ;)

All other territories annexed and loyal, which may have helped his promotion!!  ;D

I've been wondering about the titles, not only for monarchs, but for all professions. Is there a thread on that?

Anyway, somewhere along the line my "Lady" Sonia the Great became "Queen" Sonia the Great! She is only level 8... So "Queen" (and I assume King) is possible! But what triggers the different titles?

Edited To Add: I think it might have been after completing my first and only annexing quest? Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum, Pandabiotic.  Yes, the titles change as the Heroes move up in their profession, much like the careers in Sims 3.  I don't know of any list.  Perhaps there's one in Carl's Guide - you might check there.  As you say, I have found the Monarch's title changes as they annex more territories, but I haven't paid close enough attention to the titles to know any specifics.

Going from Lord/Lady to King/Queen is with annexing territories. As with the other heroes, as you level up, you get a suffix added on, almost like a title. For Monarchs, it is "the Great" at level 5 followed by "the Illustrious" at level 10. So, if Bob has no annexed territories and is level 8, he would be "Lord Bob the Great." If he then annexed a territory, he would then be called "King Bob the Great." And I think I remember seeing something on the guide, but I don't remember for sure, and it could've been another site.
