Joria, I have tried that when my Physician's boy was around because I hate his outfit - no go. Children don't show up on the list of possible Sims to take into CAS. This is so far my least favorite aspect of the game.
You've played too much TS3 when ... your 13 month old's babble sounds like Simlish!

I don't know if the child was in the room, but he was on the premises.  All the other Sims currently in the castle showed up just fine.

Yeah, there are cradles that are specific to what profession the female hero is. I do wish there was an easier way to tell when the baby needed attention, though. I tend to just ignore them most of the time, haha.

Some of the kids my Sims have had wear the most atrocious thing.. I really do hope there will be some change in the future to give us the ability to change their clothes.

If you have testing cheats enabled then you can use 'shift-right click' on the child to add their thumbnail to the family.  Then you can take the child to the dresser to change their hair and clothes.  When I do this, I always remove the thumbnail again right afterwards though (by doing the 'shift-right click' again) so that it doesn't cause problems further down the road.  If the child's thumbnail is still there when a quest ends for a hero, the quest won't actually end.  So it can be done, but you have to be careful with it.

If you buy a bear for a child you can click on the bear and "talk through it" to the child.

It's magic!  The cradle rocks and POOF!  Watch closely as it takes awhile and happens fast.
What?  Grannies can't play games?
I speak perfect Nooblik, (and some Simlish)!
