Can you break into other peoples houses when you have the thief career?

The burglars that break into your house are NPCs.  They aren't part of the criminal career path.  It's just a different thing.

You can notice that by adding a thief to your household (marrying or cheating). The once known thief doesn't have a job anymore, but you can see he was a thief because he has the ability to sneak.

But wait a minute. There IS actually a way to effectively break into someone elses home. Sorry I didn't thought of that before.
If you have Ambitions you can get the job of Private Investigator and some tasks of that are searching for clues in others trashcans or if that doesn't help: behind their front doors. If you acidentially pick someones stuff than well.... it's just evidence, right?

I don't think you'd be able to take anything from another Sim's house even if your Private Investigator could get in.  That's where Kleptos come in.

You can. A Klepto Private Investigator can "Swipe Something Nearby" and "Swipe for evidence". That means 6 items total.

Good point.  The console version wouldn't have a Private Investigator.  We've steered this thread off topic.
