Lift troubles
« on: March 28, 2011, 05:52:33 AM »
I built a tower for my vampire couple complete with lifts to all 6 floors (+basement?). It seemed to work fine at first, aside from it being a little slow since there's so many levels, but 3 times now my sims have had actions cued up that require them to go to different floors, but all they do is stand there. The sim clock ticks away but nothing happens. I've reset them all 3 times, but they keep doing it whenever they need to use the lift, even when I tried getting them to go up the lift specifically, together. I thought something was wrong with the lift, so after looking at this thread: http://www.carls-sims-3-forum.com/index.php?topic=2370.0 I tried deleting the lift on that level, but to no avail. I think it might actually have to do with the female sim changing into maternity clothes. I thought I heard the chimes when they woohooed in the lift, but I can still click on the lift to try for baby. But on the most recent freeze she changed into a maternity dress (with her fishnet stockings and fancy boots). I think I might have to restart that couple and not use lifts, but I hope I find another solutions since their tower looks so cool...

I've had problems with elevators as well, which is why I no longer use them if I can avoid it (and I can, by not playing in BP!).  Do your sims act like something is in their way?  I mean, do they stamp their feet and do the little thought bubble?  Are you sure that no one else is on the lot?  I mean, maybe the maid managed to get stuck inside (i. e. bug) and you need to reset that sim?  Do other elevators work for them?

They don't stamp their feet hardly at all - mostly they just stand there frozen in one spot. No one else is on the lot - there's no maid and no one else visiting. I don't know if the other elevators work for them because they can't get to them without using this one. However, I did try deleting it and replacing it with a new one, but that didn't help. *sigh* I might just have to do that family again :(

Did you try deleting ALL the lifts, the whole elevator line and replacing it?

Actually deleting all the lifts seems to have worked! I replaced only 2, then a third one, and it seems to work fine. :D Thanks for the tip! I'll keep playing, and I won't add more lifts until I need those levels - I have a feeling it might have had to do with there being like 6 levels plus basement. Only thing is, now they can't seem to get pregnant. They tried 3 times in the lift, and another time in the bed, but no chimes. I have a feeling it may be another glitch, because she was dressed in maternity and had a tiny bump? Anyway, I'll, see in a day or so. Thanks for the help :)

How do I open the debug console in Buy Mode?  The thread was not clear about that.  Thank you.

I'm a bit confused as to what the debug console has to do with this thread, but all the cheats info can be found here: http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/cheats.php

which says:

To use it, first enable "god mode" by typing testingcheatsenabled true followed by buydebug.

...do the reverse after you're done with it :)

This isn't the proper thread for your question.  Pally was kind enough to give you an answer, but please keep your posts on topic in the future.  Thanks very much.

Sorry I should have been more clear.  I have a simbot band in Bridgeport, and the elevator is having this same issue at one of the venues.

I was unable to figure out where to enter the debug commands, and thanks to pallyndrome for sharing the link. :)

I don't want to double post this info since I put it in another thread, but will add for context.

But after experimenting, it seems that you can only use the debug commands to buy in a building in which you are a resident.  Is this correct?  So if an elevator at a venue has issues, and you cannot move into th building, there is no way to repair the elevator?

turn moveobjects on, copy the eleveator to get a new one, drag the old one into some spot inside the building, delet it, replace with new elevator.  This is how I get rid of my broken building elevators.
