We see that image when someone moves a picture to another folder or location after the link has been posted.  Just try it again and make sure you don't move the image after linking it here.  Or...  you can use our Gallery.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by this? I have not been moving the picture, (at least, I don't think I have) so I'm not sure what my issue is. Now all of my pictures are acting up too. Maybe Photobucket hates me.  >:(

Hmmm...  Ok, we might be making it more complicated than necessary.  By profile picture, do you mean the image that shows up under your name when you make a post?  What I see right now is a white skull looking thing with flying hair.  That's your current profile picture.

Well, that was just a preset one that the forum had provided. You should be able to see it now. (or lack of it, thereof)

Try skipping the Photobucket part and just upload the picture straight from your computer.  That's the third option on the forum profile information screen, right below the one you used to try linking to Photobucket.

Which brings it back to the 'X'. I think I'll just stick with the David Boreanaz/Diablo skull guy. This is too much work.  :'(

I'm sorry, Audren.  It's hard to figure out exactly what's wrong without being able to watch over your shoulder.

Ok. I'll walk you through all the steps once more, hopefully it will work for you then.

Uploading an avatar picture should be quite simple, especially if you upload them from your computer.

First, you have to make sure that your picture isn't too big (both in dimension and file size).
Open Paint and load the image you wish to use.
Select the area you want to show on your avatar image using the selection tools.
Use the cut function to discard everything but your selection.

Now, I do not know how well our forum's avatar function scales an image down. So even if you cropped your image, it may still be to big. What you can do is scale your image down a bit (say to 50%). The image you upload can be bigger than the forum avatars, our forum will scale it down, but it can't scale huge images. I'm guessing if you go for 200x200 pixels it'll be fine for sure. Note: this are two different things. Cropping is selecting a certain area of a bigger image, scaling is making the same image smaller.

When you have an image that's of reasonable size, save it to a location on your computer. Then go to your profile page and upload the image from your machine and click accept.

I really hope it will work like this for you. But like Pam already said, at some point it becomes hard to help when you can't see where it's going wrong.

As I remember from when I uploaded my avatar, you can have an image that is bigger than the required dimensions and the forum software will scale it down.  However, there are file size constraints, and having an image much larger than the dimensions can easily push you over that limit since these limits are rather small.  I don't remember exactly how small the file has to be, but typically they run about 50 KB for a forum avatar.

I'm going to test it, to see if I can get some exact specifications.

Edit:  While I found no specifics about dimensions or sizes, I experimented with many different sizes and dimensions of pictures.  I was able to upload an image I use for desktop wallpaper (dimensions 1920x1200 and well over 450 KB), and the forum software scaled it down to fit.  In fact, I was not able to find a jpeg image of any kind that it did not allow me to upload.  Thus, I can only conclude that something outside the forum software is preventing the upload, or you're attempting to upload a file type that is not supported.

Make sure it's a .jpg file, too.
