Who did you pick next?
« on: April 19, 2011, 03:23:24 AM »
Other than a knight, who did you pick to be your next monarch?  Why?  What did you like or dislike about that character as monarch?
Male or female?

I've pretty much always chosen a level 10 knight, first female, then male.  At that level there isn't really that much they can do that's particularly challenging to me.  So I 'd like to know if anyone had any experiences with other hero types.  I'm currently contemplating a blacksmith, a wizard, and a spy, all high levels.
What?  Grannies can't play games?

Probably going to be our level 10 Wizard, because she's pretty and my wife likes her!!

Possibly ....  ;D

Well, for my second ambition (obviously), I chose my Level 10 Monarch. Thinking wise, this was the best choice, since the Wizard was only Level 6, Peteran Priest at Level 4, while the Knight was pretty much a starter at Level 3.

I have gone with whichever hero had acquired a legendary trait.  The first time it was the doctor, the second time it was the blacksmith.  In both instances the legendary trait was Natural Leader, and I thought they made very good monarchs.

I really like my physician.  She's super easy to level because there's always patients waiting to see her.  Plus there's all that herb picking and leech gathering she has to do and that fills the time and helps gain plat status on quests easier.

The only two in my present kingdom who aren't level 10 are my physician and Jacoban.  My monarch, (old knight from previous ambition), already was level 10 with legendary trait.  I've decided I don't like my spy on general principles, so she's out, (although it would be cool to investigate those potions she can make more).  My blacksmith, bard, merchant and knight are all pretty awesome, but I guess if they don't really bring their current "careers" with them it doesn't matter who I pick.  So if I'm reading this right, once they become the new monarch they no longer have their old skills?  Forinstance, my blacksmith, now the monarch, would not be able to do any smithing?

Most likely no, since he is a Monarch now.

Well I'm sitll playing my second and third ambitions so I've only done this once but I took my bard, he was like level 7 had a legendary trait famous had the eloquent trait and thought he would make an excellant monarch and he has.

My current plan is that for my Imperial domination one I'll take my Wizard and the other one  maybe my priest who knows :)

I took my Spy from my first kingdom over to be the new monarch, and he acted exactly the same as a regular monarch. So, really, (besides level and legendary traits) it is only personal preference.

I think that's true - it doesn't matter who you take.  My own preference has always been just taking someone who was level 10, so I would have one hero I wouldn't have to worry about leveling up.  That's important especially for the Hard Workers ambition, where you need to have all 10 heroes at Level 10 by the end of it to get platinum.

We're about to start a new kingdom.  We've chosen the future Monarch, and are about to play the "end game".

Question ... if we subsequently go back to the old Kingdom, can we use another Hero to start yet another new Kingdom?  Or is this a one-shot exercise?

It's a one shot deal, Slingsby.  I went back to try just that but at that point my only option was Free Play.

I was rather disappointed in not having full choices for the next monarch.  I could choose from three heroes, none of which were ones I wanted  to chose from.  I opted for the Peteran priestess as she was the highest level of the three at a level six.  Not my happiest choice but monarch's are pretty boring and easy to play so it's working out ok.  I'm doing Hard Workers but it's really a struggle against boredom at this point.  Sims 3 is calling my name pretty loudly.

Thanks for that.  Oh, well, today's the day when our Spy gets to become a Queen!  We had a choice of 5 Level-10 Heroes, but she won the prize.

I know what you mean about boredom, though.  The basic game-play is so simple, and mainly programming-led.  But it's nice to look at, with pleasant music and sound effects.
