Font of Website
« on: January 03, 2010, 08:43:00 PM »
This is an awesome website, but the font makes it so hard to read I often have to copy and paste it into a Word Document in order to change the font and read it. If you could only change one thing, I would suggest changing the font to something more readable. Thanks!

I never gave the italicized look of the Guide much thought, but come to think of it, there might be a better, more legible choice. What do you think, Carl?

Hmmm.  The font on the guide isn't italicized.  I've encountered this issue on another site and I believe the site owner said it was because of different browers rendering the font differently.  The font Carl uses is considered one of the best for reading and viewing.  Take a look at this screenshot of the home page of the guide from my computer and see if that's what it looks like from your end.

woah, Pam, that's totally different! Much much easier to read. Mine shows a font more similar to Lucinda Handwriting.

Hah, that's funny. Mine does too (the Lucida Handwriting). I always thought it looked kind of unprofessional and wondered how the site got to be so big with that unprofessional look. I've never had trouble reading it.

I'm using Chrome for Mac.

 :o :o

This is how it looks in Firefox:

I never use Internet Explorer so I thought it was supposed to look like this. Kind of bad actually.

By the way "participate" is spelled wrong in the top sentence. ::)

Thanks for the correction, PJ.  I'll let Carl know.

I'll also make sure Carl sees this thread so he can figure out what he wants to do with the font for the site.  Thanks everyone for the input.  In the meantime, if someone would maybe try changing the font on your browser and see if it helps.  Maybe you've got a font setting that overrides what Carl has programmed into the site.

For me it's the firefox-picture looking font in both Firefox and Internet Explorer.

If you want to overwrite fonts with your own preferred choices, then do this

Internet Explorer:
 - Go to "Tools" and click "Internet Options"
 - on the "General" tab you press the "Accessibility" button
 - click the "Ignore font styles specified on web pages" option on
 - Close down the screens by pressing the "OK" buttons
you can also set your own fonts while in the General tab by pressing the Font button next to the Accessibility button.

Firefox:
 - Go to "Tools" and click "Options..."
 - Click on the "Content" tab
 - There is a default font mentioned with an "Advanced" button behind it. Click that button.
 - Uncheck the "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above."
 - Close down the screens by pressing the "OK" buttons
Here you can setup your own fonts in that last screen right above the sentence that you need to uncheck.

Possible, but I never touch those settings so I have whatever comes standard with the browser. In Firefox I have this option checked: "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above."

I tried loading the site in Internet Explorer on my home PC, which has Windows 7. It looked like what you posted Pam. Now I'm at work (yes, naughty) and I tried it in IE again, here it has the same font as I posted. My work PC has XP with IE Version 8.0.6001.18702CO.

On the front of the website (and I think every other page) at the top it says Take The Super Happy Challenge and participate in our 2010 Sims 3 Tournament Season!, but the link leads to the "Perfectly" Happy challenge, is that supposed to be like that or just a little mistake?

:)

Kauri, that's the correct event. Carl just accidentally threw in "Super Happy" instead of Perfectly Happy.

On the topic of the site font — I woke up this morning and nothing is rendered italicized anymore, so Carl must have jumped right on it. It is easier to read. Thank you, Carl.

No problem. I had no idea anyone was having an issue, and wonder how many were affected all this time. The site looked fine in my browsers, so it must be some issue where the OS interprets the font. I went with something more universal so everyone should see the same thing now ;)
