The Legacy Rules have not been updated since the game came out though so you have to make stuff up as you go along with all the Expansions.
I think the last update I saw that was actually done by Pinstar himself was to accommodate Ambitions. And making the new expansion updates yourself isn't really difficult, so long as you keep the main spirit of the challenge in mind: No money, needs or buydebug cheats, and no unnatural means of extending a sim's life.
@Justwright: I had to remove the link you posted, as the thread it takes you to discusses at least one mod by name. However, if anyone is interested in looking at these rules, you can pm me and I'll provide you the link. However, these rules have only been updated for WA as far as I can tell, so Pinstar's rules are a bit more current. They likewise allow a bit more leeway in how to play it, which removes a lot of the challenge.
Edit: I found a version updated for Ambitions, making it just as recent as Pinstar's Legacy rules. However, they still allow the means to make the challenge easier.
