I am attempting this and I haven't a clue how to get mithral for my blacksmith, can anyone help? I believe I can get it from Ticktock for gems but again I don't know what qualifies as a gem. Any help would be much appreciated.

There are several mithral spawn sites.  One is on the beach and I think there's one behind the wizard's house and another near the Jacoban cathedral.  You might also be able to find it at the village shop.  I know some of the minerals can be found there but I'm not certain about mithral.

Chrissie, to find mithral, or any mineral or gem stones, you must mine for them.  Set your blacksmith at a pile of rock, select "discover", then select "collect".  Once discovered the pile of rocks will have a tag telling you what it is.
Mithral can be discovered to the left side and toward the rear of the Peteran church, (or where it will be if you don't have it).  There are two piles of rock there and one is mithral.  The beach is also an easy source.  Your smith will use a lot of different things so mining a lot is a good idea.
