Worth It?

I am considering purchasing Ambitions.... is it worth it? I have Sims 3 and Late Night and LOVE both of them.

It always depends on your play style.

If you're more into playing a single sim, maybe a couple, then ambitions is a good choice. If you play families with 4 or more sims, you probably wont have much time to spend on each of them, so attention-demanding professions can get kind of hard to keep up with, making most of the expansion's content unused.

My favorite aspect of Ambitions, and the reason I would highly recommend it, is the option for skilled Sims to register as self-employed. Now your writer, gardener, painter, etc. are recognized as employed and may receive awards/recognition for selling their product.
You've played too much TS3 when ... your 13 month old's babble sounds like Simlish!

Naga summed it up quite well.  The professions in Ambitions take quite a bit of concentration and aren't suited to a large family.  They are great fun, though, when you want to play a single Sim or a couple.

I think maybe the ability to register as self-employed was added to the base game through the update that was released with Ambitions.  Ripster, you can probably confirm this for us.  Are you patched up to the most recent update and can your Sims register to be self-employed as a painter, gardener, writer, etc.?

It wasn't.

One of the main reasons why I bought Ambitions was to avoid being 'unemployed'.
There is definitely no plug for either the No Photos Legacy or Room Dynasty here. There's a time and a place for plugs, and this is neither.

Ambitions also has a couple of new skills:  inventing and sculpting.  I haven't done much with inventing as I don't see the point of "widgets" but sculpting is great - your sim will learn to make all kinds of useful and decorative objects.

Widgets are decorations, toys are for children and childlish sims, and big inventions are the "utilities" stuff.

I really like sculpting for a few reasons. Mostly, because it's an easy way to get a good amount of money on a new game. It's also really good for decorating the house, because I hate most of the statues in the Buy menu. Oh, and about 6 of my woohooiums were from breaking the stone blocks.

No, I dont think this came with the update: if it did, I havent found it yet. Thank you all for your advice. I enjoy having one game with a large family in Sunset Valley and then another with a single sim in Bridgeport.  That sounds like a good strategy for Ambitions as well.

I've got 3 woohooium and 2 flourite gems from breaking blocks.  The only problem is that it happens when I'm not wanting it to.

Hi Ripster, welcome to the forum as I have never seen you before.
Ambitions adds a lot of new gameplay and possibilities to your game if you buy it. I definitely recommend it to you.
But in the future, can you make the title of your topic more specific? That way it is easier to see for everyone what the topic is about.

Nope, no rules broken that I can see.  If a topic is no longer open for discussion, it would be locked.  ;)
