When Sim dies...what happens to inventory?

Okay new to Sims 3 and one of my Sims is getting near the end of his days. I'm curious what happens to his inventory when he dies? Does it go into the family inventory or should I manually take it out before he dies and give it to the rest of his family?

When a Sim dies or is kicked out of home, their personal inventory will just be transferred to someone else in the household. You'll get a little notification telling which one gets the items, but I think it's the one with the highest relationship. I'm not sure what happens if a Sim dies alone though.

Okay thanks...I was just curious because I didn't want to lose all of his stuff when he died....so that's a relief.

Yes, the inventory does transfer to another Sim in the household as Ausette pointed out.

If there are no other Sims in the household, the game will display a "The End" sign and say that you can move someone else into the household and continue living there. However, the items will be gone for good.
