The windows in the basement thing was something I had to figure out because I "had to" build this as close to the picture as I could, and building the living space on the ground with an actual basement underneath doesn't qualify as a spit-level design, in my opinion. Also, I wanted bedrooms in the basement instead of a recreation room and building codes require windows in any room people in real life will be sleeping. And I can't build houses I couldn't stand to live in in real life.
