Quest question-Hamfast

My bard took up the Hamfast quest. She wrote several poems and finally got one that Hamfast approved of. The next step was to read the poem to three specific characters.  She read the poems to the correct Sims and the the next step in the quest didn't come up. I went back and had her read every poem in her inventory to the specified Sims, still nothing. After a few more tries I quit that quest and she completed the book burning quest  with no problem.

Has anyone had this problem? Game bug or operator error ?

I've noticed that the bard's functions in particular, especially at a low level, can fail and the game doesn't let you know.  For instance, mine had to play the lute and I had him play several times on different stages (inside and out) and also just amongst other sims, but it the task did not clear until he played it the 6th or 7th time.  Since I did not do anything differently, I suspect it was because he had a "medium" chance of succeeding.  Keep trying!

Keep an eye on the colour of the action option. If it is yellow the chances are that you'll not be successful. Unfortunately you get no failure message - my bard had to steal a notebook from a fellow bard and it drove me nuts that although I had a sleep song I had to try for two days until I finally got it.

I will try it again but it was driving me crazy. She has succeeded on other quests, was a level 4 bard and until she kept trying to get responses from her poem her quest level was platinum. It only started to fall when I kept sending her back (several times) to reread her poems.

Hopefully, you succeeded when you tried this again.

I've done this quest as the first one for my Bard.  I found that, as long as his buff meter was in the green, he succeeded at the tasks necessary for his quest.  If he had too many negative buffs, then he failed. 

However, I've found that if you are unsuccessful in a task then the little icon, telling you what the task is, doesn't go away. (This is from my own experience and from watching some 'Let's Play' videos on Youtube.)  So, I wonder if your game was having a little blip, rather than it being 'operator error'?
