Excavation Problem and Can't install items from the Store
« on: March 22, 2011, 07:54:32 AM »
Hi, I have two issues (at least, two issues which are game-related as opposed to personal, of which I am sure there are more than two, but that's another story) and I was hoping someone here could help.

The first is simply an annoyance - since some long ago patch, excavation sites in World Adventures which are not located on totally flat surfaces (basically leaving only the copper mine in Egypt and the little island in France) are completely inaccessible to my Sims.  If I tell them to excavate, they just stamp their pretty toes and tell me I'm being unreasonable.  This is an annoyance, but I was wondering if others were experiencing the same problem.  It has persisted for me through an Uninstall/Reinstall, which brings me to my next, much more vexatious problem.

Since the uninstall/reinstall (which was an order of difficulty like you wouldn't believe.  I'd bought the game and two expansion packs through an online download service when I lived in the city and had broadband.  Then I bought a house two counties out where the only internet available is satellite, which is pretty slow, and the transmission cap is 450MB per rolling 24 hours, after which the speed drops to single digit KB/sec)  I went out and bought the late night expansion pack in hard copy so that the game could do its copyright verification by CD instead of over the internet, and sat down to reinstall all my purchased content... and discovered that it wouldn't install.  According to the launcher, the game is fully up to date with all the latest patches, but when I tried to install, the error message said that there was a versioning problem and to get patched.

So, further research revealed that the purchased content has to have an internet connection to be installed because it needs to verify with the server.  I guessed that the EA servers expected my connection to be broadband speed, which it definitely wasn't, and they weren't getting responses back from my local desktop fast enough, resulting in an error.  Fair enough.  This time, I packed up the whole desktop and took it to a friend's who has broadband.  I hooked the whole thing up, got into the launcher and download window in Buy Mode, downloaded all the purchased objects, and the launcher and the download window both would download items and report that they had been successfully installed.  However, none of the items ever showed up in the game.  None of the purchased haircuts or outfits are in design-a-sim.  None of the objects are in Buy or Build mode.  At least one of them has moved to the installed items window in the launcher, but it isn't showing up in the game either.  The option to load the game without custom content is set to False, so they should be coming through.  I've purchased more than $100 in items from the EA store and I miss them :(

Any ideas?

I think you should contact EA customer support for the reinstall problem. Players hardly can help you with such a serious problem. As of the excavation site problem, it's common, I have it too. It came with the patch after WA's one, so everyone who updated to that patch has it. Don't worry, you can still buy your own excavation sites from buydebug! ;D Those will work for sure. Good luck with connecting EA. :)
Well, that's your opinion, isn't it? And I'm not about to waste my time trying to change it. - Lady GaGa
