Can the gender a baby be influenced as in the Sims 3?

If so, what foods, potions, and / or items are required?

Yes it can.

Apples for boys.
Watermelons for girls.

Everyone says 10 to be safe, I've never had issues with needing more then three personally.

Edit: Read the wrong forum, thought this was Sims 3. Sorry.

No, you can't select gender in TSM.  The baby's gender is random as are its traits.  Also, there is no option to specifically try for a baby - it happens just from WooHooing and it seems to happen pretty frequently.
