Repairman/woman won't fix salvaged items.
« on: November 06, 2010, 02:15:38 PM »
I sent Diana to the Junkyard to salvage some furniture and called the Repairman, the man stayed for a few hours then left, the salvaged items were still the same so a few days later something else broke and I called the Repairman again and she fixed the toilet but not the salvaged items. Has LN changed the salvageable items?

Late Night changed the way we do salvaged items.  We no longer can repair them.  No one knows for sure whether it was an existing bug that they got fixed or whether it is a bug that they don't get fixed now.  Take your pick.

Samoht, a lot of people have been having this problem.  I forget just where the thread is.  I've even had the repairman come to my Dynasty game and not fix regular stuff.  But yeah, it looks like salvaging is no longer a viable way of making money.  Too bad, it will make it much harder to get started in a dynasty.

Yeah the only option I have is to replace the item. Replacing it at full cost. So it is basically useless. For me at least.

Repaiman won't repair Junkyard items.
« Reply #4 on: January 26, 2011, 05:55:30 AM »
Basically as the title says. I have junkyard items on my lot, have called the repairman, he comes along, stands around for a Sim hour, gets paid and leaves with the junkyard items all scorched. I just wondered if this can be fixed or if I will just have to wait to see if it's added to the latest patch? Any help will be much appreciated  :)

The repairman will no longer fix salvaged items.  There is a thread about this, here:

Edit:  I am merging these two topics.

I wish EA would make it so that our sims can repair the junk furniture.  It would be a nice little money-earner for a sim highly skilled in handiness.  I hate leaving all those items behind but there seems nothing much you can do with them other than blow them up. ???

Yeah, for the minimal amount of scrap you get out of them, it's barely worth carrying them home.  But it has helped me complete the skill challenge for blowing things up.

Has anyone tried to replace the fortune cookie maker from the junkyard?  Since it's not normally available anyplace else except in China, the junkyard might be a way to get a fortune cookie maker without travelling, if you've been yearning after one.

What if you do not have Late Night? Shouldn't the repairperson still repair the items salvaged?

No, sadly a patch took care of that. I don't have LN on my laptop and the repair-person doesn't fix salvaged items anymore either.

That is a bummer as I was hoping to use the salvaged items as an income plus keep certain objects for the house. Oh well they do say that all goods things must come to an end.

Here's an interesting thing I discovered by accident.  I had the largest junkyard on a big 64 square lot.  Of course, since I could no longer salvage, it was useless so I bulldozed it.  The next day I had a Sim where the lot used to be, looking for gems/minerals.  What she found was a bunch of already repaired "salvage" items.  Six of them including an expensive tv.  Now, I haven't tried putting the junkyard back and doing a rinse/repeat thing but it might be worth a shot.  It seems when I bulldozed the lot, the spawners stayed behind only they produced repaired items.
What?  Grannies can't play games?

Do they produce repaired items every day?

I noticed this in Riverview, too...however I moved my family into the lot that the junkyard was on.  I like that lot because it's remote and it's cheaper than the one across the street from the Grisby's.  The spawners still produced junk items, though.

Did you leave the empty lot, or did you bulldoze it too?  And if you left it, how was it zoned?
