It is possible for Dogs to gain the Hunter trait, it just takes longer than cats

This happened at Week 2, Day 4 of the game, after she had been almost constantly hunting since she arrived in the household. I don't know if it works different for CAS dogs, but it's definitely possible for townie dogs at the very least.
