I don't bother with the less expensive camera, because eventually I'm going to upgrade to the better one, one way or another.  And I've tried it just after I planted them.

But once they start growing, I've already got a good idea what it is simply by what the plant looks like.

You can know what the plant is going to be by trying to sell the seed through the inventory box. If it says 0$, it's likely a Death Flower seed, Flame Fruit is worth around 27$, and Life Fruit is worth 50$ and higher. I don't know for the Money Tree seeds, but with certain light configurations, you can easily see that Money Tree seeds are a bit golder than other special seeds.
Well, that's your opinion, isn't it? And I'm not about to waste my time trying to change it. - Lady GaGa

Money Tree seeds are also worth $0.

Thanks, but it's difficult to differ them from the Death Flower seeds this way as those are worth the same.

Yes, but it means that a $0 seed isn't necessarily likely to be a Death Flower seed.  It might also be a Money Tree seed.  I'm not able to see the golden color in Money Tree seeds anymore.  I don't know if it's my graphics setting or if it's been changed so that they look like all other seeds.

Maybe it was changed in a new patch, but I've just remembered that you can discover what the 0$ plant exactly is by planting it and hovering over the plant. If it's a tree, obviously, it's a Money Tree, and if a bush, then it's a Death Flower.

I can not tell if it works with less expansive cameras as my sim was using the most expansive one. So that one must work anyway.
