Marrying a foreign visitor?
« on: December 29, 2009, 09:36:42 PM »
So my Sim went to China and found the perfect guy to help her carry on her legacy.  Since she got back, she's had him over to visit repeatedly, had a baby with him and appears to have maxed out their relationship meter.  However, there are no options to ask him to move in, get married or even go steady.  He's stuck at romantic interest.  I thought it was possible to marry Sims from other countries, so what am I doing wrong?  Do I have to go back to China to get these options?  The only other thing that I can think of is that she has another romantic interest (who went and married somebody else)--does she need to downgrade her relationship with him first?

That very well might be it. Even though the other Sim married someone else, see if there's the option to break up with that Sim.

Meg, I had the same thing happen when one of my sims wanted to marry a woman from China. It just seemed to take longer than normal for some reason. She also had two kids by him, and seemed to be maxed out on the relationship. But it still took about 3 or 4 visits from China....and he went over there 3 or 4 times, until the option finally came up.

Another tip that I heard someone else say is to alternate between friendly and romantic interactions.....like do 10 friendlies and then 10 romantics.....then try alternating them....eventually, you should get the option to "go steady" and then keep up the interactions and eventually the "propose marriage" option will come up.

OK, I'll try picking a fight with the married guy and persist with the China guy.  If nothing else, my Sim's getting loads of charisma from all the socialising she's been doing with him!

First make sure your have completely left the other person like broken up with or whatever, insult if you have to.

Then invite the new guy round, now instead of romantic do a few friendly like hugs, or if your Sim is friendly do show fondness. Basicly anything friendly. Then when it says at the top the name of the new guy thinks your sim is friendly or sometimes sociable then see if the ask to move in thing has appeared.

This works for me but I have not got WA yet but I hope it is the same in WA.

Thank-you, Samoht!  Going for the friendly route and then asking to move in worked.  For what it's worth, my sim asked her first love to just be friends, but still couldn't get the romantic interactions to advance.  I was in China when I tried the friendly socialising and then move in option, and that came up almost immediately.  I haven't seen any options to progress the romance since then, but I stopped pretty soon after for our new year celebrations.

Your Welcome, glad i could help.

To advance romantically without hopless romantic and flirty traits then you need to build up the romantic ones to unlock proposals, makeouts, kissing, massages, gestures etc.
