Travel Bugs, a discussion
« on: October 05, 2010, 01:20:18 AM »
I've been annoyed at the fact my dynasty family cannot travel anywhere without problems so I have been trying to track down a "trigger" that might be causing the problems.  There are several things that happen:

Sims bounce off one another and cannot interact or interact randomly, spasmodically and will not listen to your commands

You cannot return home via phone or computer

Your friends and family disappear from the list

You show up as a ghost in your family tree and are the only member

My first trip was with 4 Sims.  Disaster.  All the above happened.  I had to quit the game and go back to my save.

Then I went as a couple.  Again, same problems.

Then I went with a couple from a different game.  No problems whatsoever.  I went again with the same couple.  No problems.  I went again with a different couple.  No problems.  I went again with my dynasty and it was the same problems all over again.

So I decided I would go solo and see if I could find a "trigger".  The day was going well until midnight.  At midnight it all started getting glitchy and voila, my Sim showed as a solo ghost in her family tree.

So I went back out and back to the previous save, again.  I went back to Shang Simla and the day went well.  I figured it MUST be midnight causing the trigger to the glitch because even after buying things and talking to locals everything was still fine in my family tree and list of friends.  At 4 pm I used the phone to try to go home and it all well belly up again.  Midnight may be ONE trigger but the phone also did me in.

Why am I able to successfully travel with a non-dynasty family but not the dynasty family?  Pam, you obviously have traveled successfully with your dynasty, have you noticed anything that might set things wrong?  One would think it would be the same for every character you have, not just dynasty characters.  The only difference in characters is when they were created.  Could this be a factor?

Oh, I also removed Fast Lane, (had no effect on travel success), and if I wasn't deep into the dynasty would also take out Ambitions just to see if that helps.

Well, it's clearly a major bug in the game that Electronic Arts needs to address.  I've had successful trips with my Dynasty family after the one huge horrible trip.  I only send married Sims traveling and I'm careful to have almost no interaction with the locals.  The only time my Sims interact with a local is to make a purchase or to complete an adventure.  No introductions, no chatting, nothing.  I've been lucky so far with these precautions.

It's like one step forward and two steps back with this game, but eventually they get it all worked out pretty well.  Just breaks my heart my founder's current spouse can't take the trip he keeps dreaming of taking with her, and since he's a mortal elder, his time is running out.

Conversation with the locals didn't seem to make a difference one way or another for me.  I've tried both ways, chatting, and not chatting.  The only time there is a problem with chatting is after the bug has already struck, either after midnight, or using the phone.  Calling home is to chat is not a good idea either as that also brings on the bouncing and loss of family.

I don't have them talk to the locals because of the theory that locals use our Sims to procreate and that it can happen even with just an introduction or really any interaction if they're left on their own.

Whoa!  If I ever get to travel I will definitely avoid any chit chat then.  Don't need any "extras" showing up, although some have used this aspect very creatively.  I'm too old fashioned for any hanky panky going on!

I keep on hearing about travel bugs, sims getting stuck, ect, but I have never encontered one ???. I hear they could ruin a game, but I'm not sure how to pervent them. Maybe a list could be started here, so others know about them. Fell free to add any travel related bugs.
