Best expansion pack?
« on: July 14, 2011, 03:58:25 PM »
So I have ambitions and I want to get another expansion pack OR Sims Medieval. I can only get one and I want to get some opinions about which would be the best one to get next. What are some pros and cons of each?

Get World Adventures, but if you already have it, get Generations. I have Sims Medieval, but although I like the medieval setting, the gameplay did not keep my attention for very long.

I agree with Laurencius regarding The Sims Medieval.  The change in atmosphere, costume and lifestyle is enthralling.  How you play the game itself, however, leaves a lot to be desired.

At the present time, I would not get World Adventures.  Your game will want to update once you install it, and after the last update I've heard so many stories of invisible sims and disappearing inventories.  It makes me afraid to take anyone on vacation.  If things do get better with a future patch, it's a neat option, but since you take your sims on vacation and leave the neighborhood behind, you interact with it rather less than you would another expansion pack that you'd use during ordinary gameplay.

I'm quite liking Generations, actually.  Ambitions would be my #1 favorite, Generations #2, and since you've already got Ambitions.   ;)  If you're the type to like playing with sim kids a lot, it's a must-have!  If you're not I'd say Late Night might be the best choice.  I don't get really into the celebrity stuff and the constant partying and dancing, but if you like playing YA and adult sims forever and ever, it can add a lot to your gameplay.

Have fun with whichever you choose!

I agree about Medieval with both of you guys.

I do like Generations but I barely have kids in my games, I am a party people, the louder it is the better (am cuban xD) I love dancing, singing, and fame. If you are into partying and celebs this is awesome. The bad things are that you can't keep your Sims from becoming celebs for long, or you won't have much friends. I think Vampires are a good addition to the game, they do spread by story progression but not like everyone says, like, the whole town! I have used the Make me know everyone cheat and there are like 200 people in Sunset Valley (Charisma tells you how many relationships your sim has.) and only 7 were vampires including my sim.
Then again that's just my opinion.

That is the same order I would recommend them in - Ambitions then Generations. The latest EP has very broad appeal and brings a lot of extra little details to the gameplay. Late Night comes in third for me. I'm a Sunset Valley fan and wouldn't be quite so happy with that without Naga's Sunset Valley upgrade that you can find here on the forum.

Medieval I would wait out. There's another EP coming so it might be much more exciting to start it with all that extra content.

Hmmm, I guess I'm in the minority that absolutely adores World Adventures. I can't get enough of it. Generations is amazing too as it adds so much more depth to the gameplay. I also love Nightlife for vampires (i'm vampires-mad) and clubs, although Bridgeport is a nightmare to get around. Ambitions so far has been my least favourite. However, not to say I don't like it as personally I have not been disappointed yet by any expansion pack, and I love playing every one of them. But, if I had to rank them then Ambitions would come at the bottom. Not that I think there's anything wrong with it, only that it seems to be the one whose feature I play the least.

Yes, like people have said, I'd wait a bit to get World Adventures. There is rumoured to be a new patch at the end of this month that is hopefully taking care of the current bugs that can be possible game-breakers. I say Generations for now, especially if you play families a lot! If you don't play families and are more of a single-sim sort of party person then get Late Night. :)
I'm currently waiting for that new fixing patch to get WA, and then I'm getting Generations along with a few Stuff Packs.

I love, love, love WA! The only thing I have against it is that tombs cannot be redone in a save file. However, if you constantly hop your sims from save file to save file, this won`t really be a problem for you. ;) The martial arts tournament is one of my favourite things ever! It`s bad about the bugs, but lets hope this upcoming patch fixes them! Next to that, I`d reccomend Generations. I`m not a family person, but Chemistry and teen pranks make this so awesome! I do love Late Night, except the celebrity part of it. Basically, WA gives you adventure abroad, Ambitions, which you have, adds more adventure to town, LN improves life for YA and up and finally Generations makes life better for teens and under. I have a feeling I`ve said this before, just deja vu hopefully.

Generations, so far Is my absolute favorite expansion pack because everything I suggested in past threads both on ours and EA's is on it. I love the watersides and the Imaginary friends. I also think it's funny that my elderly townies are now walking around with a cane when I installed Generations. The hopscotch watersides and seesaws are a hit amongst the Teens and Older even without the childish trait. I'm digging the daycare profession and the spring rides. Plus, watching my children autonomously preside to the royal court. At Steve's Restaurant I always catch Juniper Belle (Lola's adopted son who's decked out in pink) doing that. The flaming bag and doorbell ditch is funny. My absolute favorite thing is when the toddlers pout when it's time for them to get off the spring ride.  :D
