My Sim Needs A Divorce!
« on: December 22, 2009, 11:07:31 PM »
I still can not figure out how to get my sim divorced so that she can get married. For those who don't know.....apparently, the first time she traveled to Egypt, the Special Merchant must have married her, knocked her up, and then died and so now she's stuck forever with him as her "partner" and she can't get married again. And the worst part is that she didn't know any of this took place. (neither did I) The game apparently chose to do that to her life. It's making me SO mad!!

I had her get rid of the first guy she was dating because after so long and no proposal, she finally made him move out. You know, her biological clock is ticking!  So now she has met another guy and they are both head over heels in love with each other. They are even more compatible than she was with the other guy, because now they are both getting options to "confess attraction" about the other to everyone they see. (and several other interactions that she didn't get with the other guy)  So now I would like for them to get married and start a "proper" family.....but the option isn't coming up and I really think it's because it's still showing her as being married even though that special merchant guy died.

So any ideas on what I should do?  I was thinking of maybe going back to Egypt and seeing if I could find his tombstone or remains or something....and maybe....I don't know...throwing them off a bridge? I don't know...seriously. Maybe I could take them to the Science facility back in Sunset Valley and have them bring him back to the ghost state and she could ask him for a divorce that way. Do you think that might work?

Oh and good news......(I hope)  Audrey and Steve (the love birds) are now expecting! They are currently in China and she got pregnant. I wanted to see what would happen if she got pregnant there since they are there for 21 days. Will she have the baby there? Or will it not come until she's home? Also, with all the weird reproductive issues in the foreign countries, I wonder if she'll even make it home with the baby or if it will be half grown and living by itself by the time she gets home. LOL

Are you certain that the husband is dead?  In the screenshot you posted, he didn't look like a ghost.  Is there a different Special Merchant now?  If he's still living, your Sim just needs to get face to face with him, pick a fight, and break up.  The Science Facility thing isn't a bad idea, but I don't know how you could get his remains.  Try going to the cemetary there and clicking on the masoleum to see if "Manage the Dead" comes up as an option.  Also, when you bring a spouse back from the dead, the relationship is "fiance" for some odd reason.  She could still break up with the ghost, I guess, but he won't be her husband.  Do you have control of the new Sim she's in love with?  If so, I'm curious what her marital status shows when you click on her from his relationships tab.  Does he show her as being married?

On the pregnancy thing, your Sim won't show her pregnancy until she gets back home.  I've had a couple of Sims who had babies with foreigners and neither showed the pregnancy even though I got the lullabye chimes.

No, I guess I'm not positive that he's dead, but he's not in my friends panel and I've looked all over Egypt for him and he is not living there now. Yes, there is a different Special Merchant now.

Yeah I had planned on going to the cemetery and seeing if I could find him there somehow. And yes she has control of the new sim. When I'm on his character and click on her name in his friends panel, it's showing her as being married. That's why I think he can't propose to her because according to the game, she's already married.

I guess my best bet is to try and find him again in Egypt.....maybe I'll see if she is able to call him on the phone and invite him over. If not, I'll start searching the graveyards and see if there's a way to bring home his remains and take them to the Science facility. Other than that....I really don't know what else to do. I hate to stop playing this sim because I've worked so long on building her up to what I want her to be.

Inviting him over sounds like a good idea.  Also try clicking on the masoleum in the cemetary in Egypt and select Manage the Dead.  If he's dead, he might show up there and you can get the remains.  However, he would be showing up as a ghost in the family tree if he had died.  Let me know what you find out.

Well she can't call him. He doesn't show up in her friends panel, so he also does not show up as an option to call. I guess she's going to have to hunt him down in Egypt.

Update on my sim's lost husband:

She's currently in Egypt and I had her go to the cemetery and look in the mausoleum and surprisingly, there is only one person in there, Inji Ameen, even though there have been at least three that I know of who have died from there. I looked all over and looked at the other tombstones and he's nowhere to be found. I even went into the house where he supposedly used to live to see if his remains were in there and they weren't.

I then went into "edit town" mode and looked for him again in every single house and he's not in any of them. It's almost as if he never existed. Weird! Yet my sim is still married to him so she can't get married to her current boyfriend and the father of her twin boys. Oh well, I guess my sims will have to live in sin.  :(

I just think that Egypt is buggy in general. Every time I have my sim go there, weird things happen. I don't know if any of you have noticed this....but when my two sims are talking or hugging or kissing near the front door of their vacation house, they'll bounce around to another location in the house and all their interactions are canceled.

Here are her twin boys, Charlie and Sam. They aren't identical but still pretty cute.
