Website Issue
« on: January 20, 2011, 07:25:19 AM »
I went to the (normally great guide last night and the website layout has been messed around with. The stupid advert bar is now covering the 1st few words of every line, as is the blue menu bar. I would post a screen-shot, but the forum software doesn't allow it for some reason. Any reason why it's been changed? It's not my usual problem with website layouts (increased font size) as it stays like that no matter what size the font is.

I loaded the guide in Firefox, IE, Chrome, and Safari and was unable to duplicate the issue. You can attach images up to 2000k to a message by clicking Additional Options.

I had that same problem - here's a screenshot of it:

But for me it was because the ad wasn't on the top of the page (due to an ad blocker extension on my Google Chrome) and therefore the menu "fell out of line" so to speak. The OP may be having a similar problem with something displacing the advertisements in some way. I recommend cleaning out cookies and cache. Huge, if you're using Chrome you click on the "wrench" to the far right on the menu and choose Options (or similar), and then "Content Options" (or similar) and in the menu click on "Cookies", and then "Cookies and other website data" (or similar). You should have the option to remove history either from certain sites or all history data saved. Updating your Flash Player and Java, and checking which extensions/plug-ins you have is also recommended if the problem persists.

I haven't changed anything since it only happens on a work machine (I browse during my breaks, honest! lol). I don't have the problem at home. It's no biggie, but it's weird.

Thanks for the info though.

Windows Vista? Well, I have that on my laptop but I don't have this particular problem.

I have seen this occur one time. I didn't have the issue after my cache was up to date. This can happen when the browser has cached the site's style sheet and uses the old one after this type of update. Sorry for the inconvenience but it was a necessary move for me. Let me know if it clears up for my peace of mind if nothing else. Othewise I'll have to look deeper, but being unable to replicate the problem would make fixing it a real challenge!

After I emailed you about this exact problem, you suggested that I refresh the page.  That worked for me.  I had to do it on numerous pages that I had visited in the past, but after refreshing each one, I no longer have any problems viewing the guide.  On my husband's new computer, every page I looked at loaded fine on IE and Chrome.
Ignorance is not an excuse, please read the forum rules.
