My basement is part of my house. I have the top bit being a small pretty house, then the basement for the main living space.

Well, my basement is also a service room. all the nectar is brought up from there. I also have a whole room of nectar filled with so-called 'Exalted Plasma' because friendly vampires are frequent guests.

And not to mention my hard earned loot from the tombs, all of them are kept in a Treasure box.

That's right what my basements look like! I keep mainly gems/metals, relics and nectar bottles down there. Did you know that nectar ages and gains double in value if it's kept underground for some time? It's an easy way to make money fast, especially with the Immortal Dynasty or Legacies.
Well, that's your opinion, isn't it? And I'm not about to waste my time trying to change it. - Lady GaGa

Do you know? I have 100 nectar bottles, all of them are more than 5 generations old, and this means more than 15 years! I never bother to look in my basement, moving sims there is a far-from-mind idea. I hope if I make my sim taste them, he will not pass out or die. ::)

Only my inventors, sculptors, nectar makers or sims who want to see a ghost go down there. 8)

Since my last post my CEO heir married a gold digger.  First thing she did after the wedding was start renovating the house wouldn't you know she added a secret area and tried to off the aging parents.  When the heir stumbled on the secret door she put him in there locked in a room with a fireplace and lots of combustibles.  (I'd never seen any ghosts other than the old age and vampire versions)

Apparently all that work was for naught as the Lifetime Wish wasn't fulfilled when she saw his ghost.  I'll have to go back to the guide and see what I did wrong.  But she got control of one of the most powerful households in Sunset Valley so no big loss :) As well as their evil little girl to raise!

If you have Ambitions, and your sim has good Inventing skill, you can scatter things in a room, lock the victim in that room, and detonate until he dies.

In my basement I have a museum area for adventure rewards; a nectar making/tasting room; a sculpting and invention bench; a spare room for guests who come to a party and drink too much; and an extra bathroom for convenience.

That sounds like mine though in my current game I put the butler's bed there.  The butler only hung around for about a week so perhaps she (yes a female butler) didn't like it.

I would assign my butler to the "spare" room in the basement, but everytime I assign them a bed it never seems to matter.  They don't recognize it as thier bed

My butler was happy with her bed but one night one of my ghosts took it over and the butler then chose a bed in the house. That is the last time I can remember seeing her so I guess she lost her 'butler status' or whatever when she showed independent thought.  ;D

I love basements! I always keep my sims down there! I make their house underground! Oh the torture I have inflicted on some peeps!  ;D Good times! The only time they are outside is if they are gardening, or kids/teens and have to go to school!
