Tray files ending in ".bpi" won't copy to flash drive
« on: June 02, 2023, 04:32:09 PM »
Hi everyone! I was hoping someone could help me out with this problem I'm having. I don't know what's causing it, and I can't find any solutions. I'm getting ready to buy a new laptop, and I've been copying over all of my important sims 4 folders. My saves, screenshots and cc copied over with no problem. It's my tray files, specifically the files that end in ".bpi" that won't copy over. I sorted the folder by file type, to see if any of the other file types were having this issue, and they weren't. I also tried to copy them onto different flash drives to see if that was the issue. Both of them managed to get through 32% of the ".bpi" files before I got "Error 0x 80070052: The directory or file cannot be created". Has anyone else had this problem before? Were you able to fix it, and if so, how?

I'm about as far removed from a techie as one can get lol, but I did find this...

So, that specific error code you are getting possibly means that those .bpi files already exist in the place you are trying to copy to.

Thank you for answering! I copied my tray folder to another folder in my current computer and all of the .bpi files copied over with no problem. I'm not sure what that means for my tray folder, but I'll just proceed with the files that I copied and go from there.

I read the article Metro linked to and see another couple of reasons this error occurs

1. Something doesn't like the name of the file(s) you're trying to copy over. I can see one of the files has an ! exclamation point in it. That might be what's causing it. I'm not really sure.

2. The usb drive isn't formatted correctly.

If you do choose to format the flash drive, copy the files on it back to a temporary folder on your computer first for backup. Don't want you loosing your files. :)

You can try copying your Tray folder to your GoogleDrive to see if it will copy over. If it does, leave it there til you're ready to download it to your new computer.

Thank you for answering MrsFlynn! Both flash drives were already formatted at FAT32 when I checked. I'm pretty sure all of my tray files have exclaimation points, so I'll have to look into the exclamation point thing. Do you think the files would still work correctly if I deleted the exclamation points?

I'm not sure if you delete the exclamation point in the name if it would still work correctly. What you might try is taking a copy of the file renaming it and trying it to see if it still works.

Thank you again! I'll test that out when I can.
