Need help finding a mod, here's what little I remember
« on: June 11, 2022, 06:13:13 PM »
The name of either the mod or the author (I can't remember which) started with C (if it was the mod's name it probably had to do with cleaning up errors or whatnot in the game) and it was recommended to someone experiencing lag. I thought it might help me bring life back to a couple saves that I haven't been able to play in over a week because these two saves, one in Twinbrook the other in Midnight Hollow, currently won't load their respective versions of Oasis Landing without immediately crashing. But I didn't download it immediately and then I forgot the name of the mod. Does anyone think they know what mod I'm describing?

Sounds like Overwatch, originally by twallan, now by Chain_Reaction (which might be the C you seek)?

That was probably the C I was thinking of, but if it's Overwatch, I already have it and it didn't save the saves:( you can look at my other recent post to see what all i've done....there's gotta be something!!!! I don't want to lose the progress I've made on these saves!!!!

I'm not really sure what you might be talking about, unless it's a save cleaner? Though I'm not entirely sure if they will clean up the errors and fix the lag.

There's two cleaners that I know of. Disclaimer. I've tried both of these save cleaners and S3PE to clean my saves. I get better results with the 2nd one (Regul). Kurree's Save Cleaner 2.1 is reported not to work with the Origin version of the game.

If you try any of these, please backup your saves before hand.

If the cleaners aren't what you're talking about. Maybe you're more thinking of two mods from Nraas that help clean things up within the game?  ErrorTrap and Overwatch.

https://www.nraas.net/community/ErrorTrap - Will prevent unloadable save games. Corruption Errors that can't be fixed will be trapped and logged (dumped into a file so that you can see what happened) so the Save file can load anyway. -- Runs in the background and will add error reports to your Sims 3 folder when problems arise. \Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3

https://www.nraas.net/community/Overwatch - Performs general tasks at 3AM to help speed up your game, like removing useless cars around town. Cleans up stuck Sim, turns off stereos/tvs. -- You can set up more options when you're in-game in Live mode on pause.

City Hall or Computer > Nraas > Overwatch > Immediate -

If you'd like to learn more about how to set up Nraas Overwatch, please see Sarah's blog on Nraas Settings - https://simsarahsarah.tumblr.com/nraassettings

If none of these are what you're thinking, you might want to ask over at Nraas to see if they have any ideas of what can help fix your save files. :)

Hi MrsFlynn, since I already had S3PE I used it to clean the problematic saves. We'll see if that helps any, but I'm about to start up the game again to get brand-new error files that do get dumped so I can upload them at nraas!

I wanted to share the Regul Save Cleaner option I've used before to help clean my save files. Just in case you wanted to try it.

Regul Save Cleaner
https://modthesims.info/d/652440

It's been mentioned by the creator to backup your saves so that if something happens you have a backup to use. -- It is possible to corrupt your save using the save cleaner. As I have done this before while testing the save cleaner. To fix my mistake I used a copy of the previous save and tried again.

The settings I have come to use regularly are:

– Remove Family Portraits (Removes all family portraits except current one - is recommended to enable)
– Delete Character Portraits (Removes portraits displayed in relationship panel, in CAS when choosing clothes, and in panel of selected active character - is recommended to enable.)
– Removing Photos (Deletes all photos taken by the Sim)
– Removing Generated Images (Generated images created during prom, for example.)

When using the mod, you can mouse over each of the options to read what they do. Or read more about the mod using the link above. I've had good success using the options I've listed.

If you remove photos taken by the Sim will they regenerate or will they disappear (due to being physical objects of sorts in the game, unlike portraits used in the relationship panel, family tree etc.)?

I went into the save cleaner to look at the options and their descriptions.  I updates my notes above. It looks like it deletes all photos taken by Sim. It's my understanding that it will delete all photos that were taken from the camera, phone and photo booth. They will disappear.

With my current Sim trying to become and artist and better at using the camera. Deleting the photos is a no go for me. So I don't recommend that one.

Edit to Add: I did a test with a copy of my current save. I cleaned it with the options selected here.  It deleted the contents of the TravelDB.package file and made the nhd file a tad smaller.

It did leave the photos I took with the phone, so I'm assuming it will do that with the camera. Don't have one at the moment, so wasn't able to test. It did blank the photo booth photos. :(

I won't be saving this test. lol   I want those photo booth photos.
