I think it depends on the player in how they play the story line. It seems like the storylines I've read don't really mention much about Jared, but they (the player or game itself) give a different name for Claire's daughter.

Sim parents who don't live with their kids aren't autonomously pushed to do much at all for them. Since it's usually the dad: I've both controlled dads who had kids elsewhere and controlled kids who had dads elsewhere. Maintaining a relationship takes work.

Plus Jared is a big meanie. :P

Unless the sim is the father in Aurora Shores who has the children by his baby mamas living with him, (and in the case of my female sim, the mother of the 2nd generation living with him as well). Each of the kids has the surname of their respective mother, and have differing levels of love/hate with their mothers (and their father)

I don't think he does, unless they have been made to live together and/or build up a relationship. TS3 Sims don't seem to have been scripted to display a strong sense of family - reaching out to other Sims seems more based on how much they know and like someone.

;D Trip. Jared may be a meanie, but even mean-spirited, child-haters, and evil Sims are scripted to take proper care of small children's needs, if they live under the same roof.

so in order for jared to have a relationship with heather (name i chose for her), i would have to switch households and get him to visit the ursine household? make nice with claire and introduce himself to heather? i haven't thought to do that, but maybe i ought to give it a go?

You could also invite him over or to a party and have Heather initiate interactions.

you know, i was thinking about that. like last night as i was playing i had claire and heather go out to eat dinner and it so happened that connor was sitting outside so i had to switch households to have connor speak to claire and i had him do friendly introduction to heather. i never see jared in the game so far except when claire announced her pregnancy to him and he did the congratulations tap on shoulder to her. haven't seen him since. i when i play later i just might have claire throw a party and invite him. ( if he comes that is because in her relationship panel, it says she hates him). thanks for the suggestion!

In the past, when I played Claire Ursine's household, Jared pretty much ignored their daughter. In one game, she met him at the birthday party where she aged to child and Jared's first interaction was to insult the poor kid. That mean-spirited trait is a killer for family relationships. Even family-oriented sims that have it, like Nick Alto, will autonomously be nasty to their children. Some sims, like some people, just seem to enjoy being jerks. ;)

However, when I've played the Frio brothers, Jared does roll wishes to do things for the daughter after she is born. Even if he hates Claire and no work is done on their relationship, he will still get wishes to see the daughter age up well or to hold her or interact. So, from that you could infer that he does care about the child to an extent.  But, if you leave him to his autonomy, he will do the rude interactions as well as basic care-giving. Every time I've played a mean-spirited sim like him, I find I have to micromanage them to avoid them ruining their relationships through autonomous mean interactions.

On a tangential note, mean-spirited and good don't conflict somehow (I guess you can still be morally sound even as a nasty person), and the good trait seems to override most autonomy from the mean-spirited trait.

That's how I interpret that combination, someone who would fight on the side of the good guys when it comes to most things, donate to charities, help someone in need, but not pleasant to be around or one for niceties.

It's not a combination I've played often, and the first time I dealt with it was with an imaginary friend with those traits and he can get frustrating, especially since the sim he's connected to is hot-headed. Their relationship takes some hits whenever I leave them unattended around each other too long because one or the other will start something.  But the good/mean-spirited IF also has the diva trait, so that probably aggravates rather than softens the mean-spirited trait, especially if the hot-headed sim starts the rude chain of interactions.

thanks cheesy. i guess i won't be finding out how jared will behave because my computer ran into a problem and i lost my game yet again. so i would have to play the ursine household all over again to find out. it seems i run into problems everytime i try to play the sims 3 lately. so frustrating it makes me feel like i want to just not play any sims at all and just move on to  my hidden objects games instead. but i really love sims 3 so i might just take a break about a week or two and give it another try. but thanks for answering!

My town jump 8th gen heir, Lucinda/Cinda/Cici, rolled mean spirited as a child and good when she became a teen, and I do think good tempers mean spirited somewhat.
As a mean spirited fairy, she definitely had her moments!
But having her roll loner as a young adult really helped keep her away from other family members so keeping their relationships intact was a bit easier.
Especially being disciplined, as she spent most of her free time breaking space rock blocks in the basement!

What was most irritating is the nerd group interaction berating others ignorance!!!
That causes no end of trouble between family and friends!!!

On a side note: Jared, who was one of my founders, loved that she inherited his mean spirited trait! And you just know he would!!! lol

Once I saw the unborn baby ursine with Connor at a family outing, they had a good relationship together.

But often I see with nraas sp, that Jared is leader of thugs and unborn baby also becomes a thug.
