CC and Nraas not working
« on: January 01, 2021, 09:26:22 PM »
So, I was downloading CC using the Sims3Pack and because I'm such a noob to the game, I would take the downloaded content (after already installing the item) and move it into a CC folder I created in my Sims 3 files. My computer was starting to run low on space, and I had discovered that if I already had the Sims3pack installed, I didn't actually need to keep it. So I deleted alllll my Sims3Pack files (which ended up bring around 1.5G of content)
Then later, when I go to play my game, I opened up one of my saves and saw that all my CC was gone from the game!! And what's even weirder, none of my Nras mods were working either. The portrait panel, and when I clicked on a sim or just anywhere, Nras wasn't an option.
Which is weird, because I never even TOUCHED Nras!! Sure I downloaded some .package CC as well and just threw them in my Packages folder because I was too lazy to create separate categories. But my Nras mode are in a whole separate sub-folder and I don't see how the other .package files would affect them either.

I immediately quit the game and went to my Sims 3 files. Strangely enough, all my Sims3Packs are STILL in the downloads folder, I never touched this folder, and when I tried to reinstall some of the CC, it said the content was already installed. So I know everything is still installed via launcher, it just didn't show up via game???
I also noticed in the files I had Script-Errors and Script Cache, which I assume to be the root of my problem for Nras. I have no idea how this happened, as again I never touched my mods. I know my Candy Crush skins also didn't seen to be working, one sim I made was just a black void. I didn't check my other mods like Hospital Override or my Pregnancy Mod, but I would assume those don't work either.

I have no idea what the heck happened, and would love some advice on how to fix my game??

For a recap:

Mods not working
CC installed via Sims3Pack not showing up in game
.package CC seems to be fine except for the CandyCrush skin I had.

I would be happy to DM someone aswell to send the crash reports that are present in the folder too.

You haven't mentioned what you tried to troubleshoot your issue, so you might try reading over this post linked below to see if any of it helps.

Usually the .Sims3Pack files stay in the downloads folder even after they've been installed via the launcher. You need to remove them manually if you don't want them in the downloads folder anymore.

You may have a better chance of asking over at Nraas - https://www.nraas.net about the script error files. They are more familiar with reading those types of files.

Well I did try reinstalling the CC, but it as I mentioned, its still installed. All the CC was working fine before, its possible something I downloaded could of been corrupt, but I don't think corrupt CC would affect the other, perfectly working CC?

And I thought deleting files in DCCache and DCBackup permanently deleted your CC (alternative to deleting through launcher). What exactly should I delete?
If worse comes to worse I could just delete everything and re-install all the CC, but I would also like to avoid that.

I also don't understand why the CandyCrush skin isn't working either?? Its a .package file, and I know the .package hairs are working okay? Well, some of them maybe? I do know a few of my sims hairs did change when they had .package CC. I never touched the .package files either, besides ones I installed today.

Deleting the files in your DCCache folder [\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\DCCache] does permanently delete all custom content, store content, lots and Sims that you've installed via the launcher, to where you'll need to reinstall it.

You can safely delete all the files in the DCBackup folder, [\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\DCBackup] with exception of ccmerged.package Don't delete that or your premium store content will break.

I am not sure why your CandyCrush skin isn't working. It may be something you'll have to check via the Creator's site for troubleshooting tips if uninstalling it, and clearing cache files don't help.

For reference the cache files I'm referring to are and can be found in \Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3

  – CasPartCache.package

  – compositorCache.package

  – scriptCache.package

  – simCompositorCache.package

  – socialCache.package

  * Deleting the cache files helps with troubleshooting when mods or custom content isn't working. It refreshes the games memory. It's a good idea to do this when ever you're adding or deleting mods or custom content.

When my custom content isn't working I check the last few or so files I installed. Specially if it just started not working. If it hasn't been working for awhile and something feels off about it. I just go ahead and uninstall/reinstall all my custom content. This way I know for sure that I've worked out my custom content issues.

I have found in my experience that corrupt cc can corrupt working cc or at least make it to where it's not working quite right.

Oh yes, I did notice those cache files in my documents!! Except they weren't in the DCCache they were just in documents/electronic arts/sims 3 folder. I will try deleting those and seeing it it fixes my game. Maybe it'll fix the Nraas too? I haven't gotten a response yet from their forms, but because the CC and Mods all broke at once, I think its the common route of the problem.

Thanks for the help

That's odd that the DCCache files aren't in \Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\DCCache. As that's where they usually are.

Although if you've got OneDrive turned on, you may want to check there. Sometimes the files get moved to OneDrive. The game cannot use any of the files that are outside it's main folder. \Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3

You can turn OneDrive off with the instructions from this article:

Turn off, disable, or uninstall OneDrive
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/turn-off-disable-or-uninstall-onedrive-f32a17ce-3336-40fe-9c38-6efb09f944b0

You can use the same steps to troubleshoot custom content as you do with the mods.

You can find instructions on the steps I take to troubleshoot CC and mods in the post linked below.
