Green Icons

It's been a while, so I apologize if this has been asked a million and a half times.

Lately, I been noticing these little green icons popping up when I do things, and I have no idea what they mean, or even what they're called.  And I have a suspicion that there might even be more that have popped up before I noticed these.

Can anyone tell me what they are, what they indicate...or even better, if there is a key or legend somewhere.  I've searched the web for one but, as I don't even know what they're called, I haven't been able to find anything.

Edit:  In case it matters, the sim's traits are Green Fiend, Recycle Disciple, and Freegan.  She had just finished rummaging through a pile of trash, and her home lot has the traits "Off-The-Grid" and "Reduce and Recycle."

Hello stranger, It's nice to see you around again.

Those are "bits and pieces" they are used in the Eco Lifestyle. You will need them to use the fabricator and other things.

Good to see you again, Hosfac! They might also be indications that you're gaining influence, especially if they show up after your Sim has met someone new. You can use influence to vote on the NAPs (Neighborhood Action Plans, I think). Have your Sim check the mailbox -- you definitely don't want Sharing and Caring to be voted in.
