Move Her Out?
« on: January 01, 2011, 07:58:28 PM »
Blossom Adkins is almost a YA. I usually move my sims out once they get married, but I don't want her to be cast out into the perilous world of Story Progression. Also, in some legacy stories I've been reading, the kids stay in the house their whole lives. What do you guys think?

I guess it would be a matter of personal taste.  I use to move them out after they turned young adult.  I have one neighborhood, that has 12 kids of the same parents scattered throughout and I change households to see how everyone is doing.  Then I have a few neighborhoods that I just keep the kids in the house and when the parents pass away, at least the house stays in the family.  So maybe designate one neighborhood to moving the kids out to keep track of their progress, but leave one at home to keep the family house or move one back home when the parents get close to their time.  It is all fun to play. :)

I've done it both ways.  It just depends on what your goals are for that particular game.  Story Progression will take over if you move them out.  I've had some even move out of town, but some stay around and have families.  Sometimes I would have a female Sim get pregnant before moving out to make sure the family continued.  If you have them stay in the house, be prepared for it to fill up pretty quickly.  If there are a lot of kids, there won't be room for all of them to get married and have kids of their own.  Not so much a problem if you've only got one or two kids.

I usually move out the spare siblings that don't excite me or provide a great service for the heir and his/her family. For a while, I used Edit Town to make sure all the spare relatives ended up in the same house. It made it nice and easy to visit them and check on their progress.

Young adul life stage: the crusial moment of keeping or leaving.
I think, but who am I, you may want to keep your kids. As how far I am aware of your playstyle I do believe you don't want for Story Progression to take over the stuff and therefore you want them to live at home, parent home that is.
I don't have to ad anything new to this while everything I agree with has already said in posts above me but maybe you've seen the comedy: The 40 Year Old Virgin? Sims living at there parents home until the parents will move to the other side of the grass are not standard weirdos, so there is no related thing to be aware of.
Actually, I do this all the time ingame with multigeneration families.

I have a totally different take on this it seems. I leave the young adult in the family home and once they get married, I move the parents who are elder or nearing it out. I repeat this process with each generation and so far it has worked out well. Just seems to me that its alot safer to cast elders out into the world of storyline progression :D

That does sound like a good plan, but her parents are vampires, and will probable have great-great grandchildren by the time they're elders. :-\

Well, than there is nothing else than just keeping the sims in your family I'm afraid.
