How to use the Omniplant?

I've never really followed a gardening career until now, and I've just grown a few omniplants.
I was just wondering - how do I feed them?

It's got the option to check diet.
It also has a feed option, but when I click it nothing happens.

If you have the option to feed the omniplant, you need to make sure you have something in your inventory that is useable.  Books, other harvestables, fish, even the portable stereo.  It is better to use higher priced items if you are aiming to make money.  Or use deathfish if you don't like to fish.  Post again if you have any other questions.

The omni plants can be fed fish, books (non-recipes), other fruits/vegetables, and I'm not sure, but I think you can feed them notebooks too... or could, I don't know; So just make sure you have one of these in your Sim's inventory when trying to feed that crazy plant.

If the above didn't answer your question, mind if I ask, what were you trying to feed it? Do you use mods, cheats, or have any unofficial custom content?

Sorry, I forgot to add that I had lots of fish in my inventory.
When I clicked on feed, it didn't have any indication that I could choose what to feed it which confused me.

I don't have mods, though I have a couple of unofficial clothing/hair items.
The only cheat I play with is 'testingcheatsenabled true', and that's generally just in case my Sims get stuck.


EDIT: I also read that recipes cannot be fed to omniplants. Is this the same for bait books?

Bait books should be feedable, as they aren't gone after being read. Have you tried feeding the Omnipoodledoodlethingy while only holding a couple of fishes, instead of hundreds? Because when you go fertilize a plant, the dropdown menu shows only each fertlizier type you're holding, but when you go feed the omnizookatud, every item that you're holding (being it feedable, of course) will show up individually, so maybe your dropdown menu didn't open because it was too big.

That's what I was thinking, too.  If you have a large personal inventory, it takes a long time to load for feeding the Omni plant.

Indeed, and maybe Alex could have thought something like "Ok, omni plant is not working, let's move the sim over here to do this and that", and then clicking somewhere, making the menu close before it even had a chance to get loaded.

I didn't realise that I had close to 400 things in my inventory. No wonder it didn't want to load.

On another plant related note, in another game I can't weed my plants. The option doesn't come up, despite the fact that they're covered in weeds.
I'm in the process of turning the game off and back on again, so hopefully this works.

Your gardener has to be at level 3, I believe, to weed the plants.  But if you've got the Omni plant, your gardener is surely experienced enough.  Do you get the option to Tend Garden?

The inability to weed the garden was in a different game. I didn't realise you had to be at level three to weed the garden though, so thank you for that information.
That would explain why it's happening.

I have another question on Omni plants.  In Sunset Valley there are wild OP growing behind/beside the Science facility.  I fed them cheese for 3 days in a row, and tended it every day for 2 game-weeks but it never "sprouted" cheese. Do you have to be a certain level of gardening to actually harvest from Omni plants?

I fed the omniplant before I even had a skill in gardening, and when I returned to harvest it I was at level 1.
I'm sorry that I can't tell you what's wrong, but I don't think level has anything to do with it.

The one at the Science facility doesn't always work right.  Try checking its diet and trying again.
