Having Friends Visit in Discover University

I want to send my Sim to college.  She is family oriented so if she doesn't see her husband, she is going to get unhappy.  Can he visit her if she lives off campus just like friends come over to visit you in Oasis Springs?  I don't want her to get too lonely, and I don't want all her friendship bars to decay to the point where they are no longer friends.  Or can I build a house for both of them to live in? I don't really like that idea because he will do nothing while she is away at school.  I hate having idle Sims for hours.

Sure, "Invite to Hangout at Current Lot" works anywhere.  At a bar, and realize you should have brought a couple friends?  No problem, they'll come hangout there as long as they're available.  Oops, went to Romance Festival alone?  Hubby will come meet you there.  And yes, it works in the University dorms too.
