I brought a board breaker to France and got several pink diamonds from using it. I gave them the heart cut while still in France; when my Sim returned home to Sunset Valley the heart cut pink diamonds were worth the same as they had been before they were cut.

Then she got 3 Tiberium from the board breaker in Sunset Valley. As they hadn't yet turned to crystals I left them in her inventory when she went to Egypt. As soon as she got there they made her sick so I put the Tiberium on the ground by her vacation home and after a few days they turned to crystals worth about 40.000 simoleons each. I put those back in her inventory so she could bring them back home. When she got home they were only worth around 500 simoleons each.

After a lot of tinkering with the cool transmogrifying display case and using up all my metals I had managed to make a Compendium ingot worth 26.000 simoleons. After the round trip to Egypt and back this was now worth 758 simoleons.

Akh! Akh!! Akh!!! >:( :'( >:(

I am so mad I've scrapped that game and started a new one. >:( >:(

Yikes!  I guess there is a reason, even if I did not know it, that I do all my gem cutting and metal smelting in SV and don't travel with cut gems.  I really hope EA gets all them nasty bugs worked out with that update later this month.

I've got a heart shaped pink diamond that didn't increase in value after being cut, but I don't know if I traveled with it.  It's very possible that it was cut in China, but I don't remember for sure.  Very interesting observations, PJ.  Thanks for sharing!

You're psychic! :o

Well, I guess now I know what those treasure chests are for. I need to unload everything valuable before traveling. :P

Aww PJ that sucks...glad I usually wait to get anything cut or smelted til sims get home.

That changes my mind about sending stuff away while Renee simmie is in vacation home too.  :P

The cut gems you find in tombs also drop in value if you bring them home. :(

The fish also lose value.   I had 7 mummy fish in sim's inventory, plus several other fish.  When I checked after catching them, value was around 700-800 per fish.  When I cashed them in back in Riverview I only got $1700 for all of them.  :o  I was a little steamed!  >:(  That was after going on a couple of vacations so I'm wondering if I had cashed them in earlier, would they have lost only a little value or traveling back and forth a couple of times, they continued losing value til they were only worth the pittance I ended up with.  ???

I'm going to definitely check this out.
