Installing sims 4 on HDD
« on: July 13, 2020, 03:41:40 PM »
Hello! This is not an issue but rather a question. I recently downloaded and installed ts4 base game on my HDD but some files still went on my SSD like the mods and screenshots. What i want to know is, if i install packs what is gonna fill up? My HDD or SSD? I really hope they are gonna take place in my HDD as i dont have room for them in my SSD.

This is related to Windows because your Windows install is on your SSD, so your My Documents folder is also defaulted to your SSD. You need to go through the process of changing the default storage of your My Documents from your SSD to your HDD. Since you got an HDD, that's probably worth it anyway, as you don't want the clutter that ends up being stored in My Documents on your SSD, probably.

There are several online guides on how you can do that if you search a bit for it.

@Entropic Thanks! I want to ask about another thing if you dont mind. Which is better for the game preformance, having it on HDD or SSD? or is it the same?

It's better to have the game installed on the SSD, and the Documents (Sims 4 folder) on the HDD. As the SSD runs quicker meaning faster loading times and smoother gameplay.

I also want to add as I missed that question, but any expansion packs will detect the default installation of your game and install themselves there. Since you installed Sims on your HDD, your expansion packs will also end up there.

I agree that if you want the smoothest experience possible and to reduce loading times, installing your game on the SSD is optimal, however.
