Sims Eugenics II - When you're looking like that, part 2
« Reply #180 on: November 20, 2019, 03:17:13 AM »
While Enele was dying again (clearly life is not something he's very keen on, and he started off as a ghost after all), Aili, daughter of our problematic Polynesian deity, was posing for tourists. As you do.

Now is as good a time as any to mention Aili is an immortal from her spellcasting potions.

Danica as a teen in the swimwear she was randomly assigned. She's already got a tan because as a Sulani Mana teen, she, like others before her will do the beach life aspiration instead of purchasing "Carefree". Getting a tan is just one of the things on the path to that goal.

That Sunday evening was an award ceremony (this is still the day she aged up, and the day Enele died), and Wayne needs to get an award for his acting aspiration. So Danica was in CAS for a makeover and to give her something exciting to wear to the event. She even found time to crank out a new hit song on the small chance she'd get an award herself. Still sad about her young grandfather dying again. She has freckles! Seriously! Does Aili have freckles? She might. Hmm.

It's not so easy to see with her tan, but that'll fade. I'm not a fan of tanned sims, and I just wanted to get it out the way asap.

Lets not avoid the obvious. You know Bella Goth, and Danica still has those Goth dimensions. Her dad was a pear when he was younger (it got fixed after she was born), because his father -- Father Winter -- was a pear. But as I thought, if you have a daughter she'll take after her mother, so I wasn't worried about her being a pear. So from here on presumably one could have a succession of generations, all girls by Father Winter, and not have to worry about them with pinched-in shoulders and still being round even after diet ice-cream or slimify serum. And they'd all have Sulani Mana, and strengthen the magical bloodline too.

Here she is giving a 4-star celebrity an autograph.

Unfortunately, no prize for Wayne, but Aili got two just for being a Goth. Goths are OP!*

*this is obviously a polite fiction, because no Goth can be too awesome, and any power they have is what they're perfectly entitled to
*to be clear, the above is also nonsense

When we got home, the last winter snow had gone and there was much excitement and experimenting with the roof. As you know from previous posts, dear reader, the roof changed back. The contrast between dark and light is nice, and it might remind you of black and tan... juice. But I think the other roof is more posh. The colours balance, it's softer.

I like the celebrity home / tourist / paparazzi thing. It suits this kind of house. This is no new-money Del Sol McMansion. No nesting gables here, thank you very much. This is proper old money. This is the seat of Count, Danica!

Here, Count Danica!'s mama (please tell me you're saying that in an accent befitting her) is in the new study. With the new windows, pretty much every room has had to be reshuffled.

And the moment none of us had hoped for: Normal Norma as a toddler. Those blonde hair and blue eye genes are strong.

She very unexpectedly has a very angular brow. It's rather a trademark of the family, so she's right at home, but... what? She makes no sense at all. She is not an alien as far as I can tell. I wonder if she'll have any alien social interactions available when she's older? I might also bring this save to a close when Danica ages up to YA and move on to something new.

This is when the house got its roof back. It's the same moment frozen in time that you've seen from another angle already. The postman on his broom. *gentle sigh* Oh Sims.

And little Norma in the nursery with the dog.

-----

I like my odd sims. It's true. :) I think that's a good gameplay hook too. It's my motivation to play through multiple generations. Maybe I should just start a save as Vlad. Pointy kids guaranteed.

So on the Sulani Mana trait thread, I've posted a 100% alien with that trait. As a baby, Cleo's father could breastfeed, but spellcaster Wayne couldn't breastfeed his baby-by-abduction. That struck me as odd, but maybe it was patched out or something. I didn't think much of it until baby Cleo. No, it's still a thing, but obviously the only time a man can do this is for his alien child. It's further evidence Norma is not alien at all.

So, spellcaster + abduction... (as of now, it might change in the future) you're not going to get an alien in your family tree for you to raise and nurture.

There's actually tons of changes, some of which had been percolating in my mind for a while. 6 new or changed roof sections. There's even HVAC now.

Yup, nice house. I like this one.

I apologise for the rushed single picture, and the mistakes. See, that's what happens when you rush.

There's a chimney smoke bug, and trying to get the smoke to restart is a bit of a pain. As you see above, no smoke.

A new fireplace was installed in the enlarged spellcaster room, and a fireguard was installed.

After that, the chimney smoke came back... until I added two small chimneys for artistic balance, and now it's stopped again. I've seen other people get annoyed by bugs that just pass me by, but this is one that *really* grates on me.

The skylights are above the enlarged hot tub / spa area and above the magic room. I did notice the floating ceiling light after this screenshot, and I did fix that.

It makes this area much more interesting and usable. I don't automatically groan when I realize a sim has wandered off to watch that TV. Now I think "hey, good choice".

When I changed this floor to the tallest wall height, it removed all the stairs to the attic level, and it was something of a challenge to refit the house. That staircase is an L-shape that hugs the outer wall of the home gym, and I think the sitting area is much better than it was.

Norma is doing fine. :) Still not green or pointy. My focus will be more with the Dynasty of Original Townies Dynasty, but I wanted to clean up this house. If chimneys start behaving, you can expect me to rush to open this save again and spam you with pictures.

Edit to add:

Maybe the last update fixed it.

Gorgeous house, Heart Foam.
Love the cedar spa room with the skylight and falling-water thingies.
Thank you for going back and sharing a second night-time shot with the chimney smoke.
That smoke really adds to the atmospheric look together with the well-positioned outdoor illumination and the ocean waves in the background.

Sims Eugenics II - indoor pool
« Reply #184 on: December 09, 2019, 07:11:32 AM »
A small tweak to the house was made on the weekend. I feel I must share it. :) I've long felt the pool didn't help. Until the bendy-stair update it wasn't really possible to have a basement. There were those ante-chambers adjacent to the red galleries. On the left it connected to the study and a bedroom, on the right it connected to the dining room. That's where stairs to the basement go.

This side was slightly more complicated, but that narrow arch leads to the master bedroom.

The pool from both sides. Now with money vault.

Norma is fine. Aili cast "delicioso" on the spoiled breakfast, and made Norma eat it again.

The indoor pool is more practical and useful year round. And the back of the house is cleaner, more open. It won't make the game lag less by adding even more Stuff, but prettiness counts for something. :)

Okay, I heard the disappointment. You felt there was no jungle vibe at the pool, and you were right.

I guess I like green pools. The other palms will grow.

-----

Edit #2. I think the 20x15 Nookstone was making me claustrophobic. I'm having great fun with this pool.

The sim with a plumbob over her head is Blue Goth (so, Danica).

Aili lies down, Wayne sits, and Danica walks.

-----

I had to grow the palm trees. And the last picture in the above post with the spot lights around the pool genuinely, really bugged me enough to go back in game and fix it.

But, it's a house and family that calls me back. It's gorgeous. I hardly understand how I made it. Is the save finished? I haven't met my goal of completing the jungle collections. In other words, no.

It's interesting to take a step back and see how much the front half the house is all staircases and passages and small rooms (like bathrooms and laundry). The back half is where the big living spaces are. It's a really playable house. It's easy to get around.

This is a better view of the basement stair solution. On the left:

There's the quirky passage to what would be master bedroom(?) (because Aili and Wayne's bedroom is actually upstairs) (this bedroom is Danica's), but big houses can be quirky, and it doesn't bother me. It adds to it's charm. Woohoo / townie makeover closet. Every house needs the ability to change townies.

On the right:

The door to the dining room. Here there's no need for that 1x3 passage or closet, so it's the new home of the laundry. Cheap lino floor. Awful wallpaper. Perfect.

It's funny that the stairs in the wings are far better quality than the two main staircases, which as you can see in the picture of the ground floor, are still the cheapest type. The family was flat broke and crippled by bills when building this, and if you can save 1000 simoleons you do! But the outer stairs are newer and better. So there's history here.

Danica Goth / Blue Goth / Count Danica! She had the full face freckles which I dialed back in CAS, so she's literally the Lesser Spotted Goth now. In the Goth dress, but as a blue-eyed blonde, it couldn't be Bella red.

And here are all 4 palm trees, completing the super-realistic look. This takes patience, not just purchasing something from build mode. The pots are handmade too, by Aili / Red Goth 2.

Below, a collection of celebrity autographs including Judith, Thorne, and Brytani. This is the inspiration room above the kitchen, and it also has a nicer view of the sea through these windows.

I eventually got around to fixing the sides of the house. Discover University was really good for buildings like this. There are still those two "narrow outlook" windows, because DU doesn't have an equivalent tall single-tile window. I'm not sure if the all-white version would look better. That jumps out to me as not being quite right.

Danica and her mum doing the obligatory rocket project. In fact, Aili is going to max rocket science solely from her own rocket as a teen, and helping out now.

Look! It's a small sim. One could even say a tiny sim! This must be Tiny Living.

Passage / hallways on the ground floor: 245 tiles

That's normal Norma. I loaded this up and took a deep mathematical plunge into counting tiles. Just for the sake of reference / curiosity / small trivia for your next cocktail party thus: "hey, there's a guy on a Sims forum, and the house...". At which point your company leaves you. Unless they're excellent company.

Norma and Count! Danica in the study.  48 tiles.

The biggest bedroom + en suite. 86 tiles. (I'm including 2 tiles of woohoo closet.)

Basement: 478 tiles
Ground floor (Carl's Video says foundation will count? is that a thing?): 1696 tiles.
1st floor: 750 tiles
Attic: 326 tiles

Total house: 3250 tiles.

So I think a tiny house is a fair bit smaller. Maybe one day I should load it to a Tiny Living lot anyway just in case my counting was wrong. You never know!
