Alright, I'm going to front up here and be honest, it was me who gave Deklitch that advice and before anyone gets upset with me, I'd like to explain myself a little.

When you posted that thread @Deklitch I assumed you had already read all the guides here and were still stuck so I was trying to come up with other ideas you could try. In the past, whenever I've been having trouble with something in the Sims 4 I've found tutorial videos to be really helpful that's why I suggested them. I was trying to be genuinely helpful, I'm a little sad that you thought I was trying to dismiss you or discourage you from asking further questions, that was not my intention at all and I would never do that.   I'm sorry if I came across that way and that it wasn't helpful for you, I tried to help in the best way I knew how but different strokes for different folks right?

Anyway, I just wanted to come here and apologize for making you feel that way, I can't stand to sit here and watch someone else think I did them wrong, I care about everyone on this forum too much to not speak up and own my mistakes.

@Deklitch Don't ever be afraid to ask for advice here, I know many people on this forum are here and willing to help with any problems you may be experiencing, even if some of us may not give very good advice, we're still still going to try. If Sims 4 is not your speed then that's cool, just play whatever game you feel comfortable with however you like and remember we are all here for you.

FWIW, I find it highly unlikely that EA will delay the release of Sims 5 for another 4 years. Sims 4 is fast approaching its 5th anniversary in September, and that has traditionally been the release schedule of all the Sims games -- about 5 years give or take. If I could wave a magic wand and get one thing brought back for Sims 5 it's open world. No more loading screens every time I leave my lot.

The question would be: can they manage an open world without massive lag (and resource consumption)? Don't get me wrong, I loved the open world (I am a control freak and TS4 means my sims only travel as a group or when everyone else is in work/school) but the price was sometimes too high. TS4 would be decent in this regard IF they had those subzones fully open - and I think this compromise might be more likely than a fully open world, for performance reasons.

Hmm, I'm one of those weird persons who don't place priority on an open world. It's a bad experience for me in Sims 3 with all the routing issues and lag despite my home-built computer's superior capabilities. I would like to be able to play my game without having to install usermade performance increasing mods, out of necessity. I don't want an open world if this is how it will be with Sims 4 as well. Also, I'm not big on being in control in my game. I have much fun watching what my Sims do on their own. It's only if I want them to complete a specific task, that their free will can be burdensome. In Sulani, I feel this is especially bad - my Sims almost aggressively insist on doing their own thing, so I've taken autonomy away from them right now. Behave, little Sims. Or you can't have your favorite toy back anytime soon! *evil cackle*

I just want to say ... I'm loving the toddler stage in Sims 4 especially the way they play with their adult carer/parent, and the choice of traits you have for the toddlers. Also the toddler skills and the animations related to them. I also appreciate the way that the toddler skills build into childhood skills and the childhood skills build into teen and older skills. The stuff that the parenthood pack brings into the equation as well probably has an influence on part of it as well, but overall, I am finding that a wonderful addition and improvement on the game from Sims 3 to Sims 4.

Despite my reading various guides here on them, Aspirations and Whims and Moods and their interplay in Sims 4 are still rather confusing to me.

I'm doing my best to put the way things are done in Sims 3 out of my mind, but it is a struggle.

So it seems that you can teach an old simmer new tricks.

One thing I do a lot these days in Sims 4 is disabling autonomy/free will. The fact that Sims want to change activity every 5 seconds doesn't sit well with me. Plus, that darn obsession with the phone. There are definitely pros and cons. The toddler part being a big pro, as you describe. Toddlers are much more limited in Sims 3.

I wish you well in your exploration and experimentation. And don't hesitate to ask for help, tips and/or tricks! I dismissed the Sims 4 for, I believe, two or three years after its release before I cautiously touched it. It took even longer before I started to like it.

Oh yes, I hate that ** phone ... it always seems to be from the one sim who is actually not a friend of the sim she's contacting, but rather a friend of her child. And it also happens in the middle of the night when she's trying to sleep. Honestly she's just as bad as those irritating real life pop up stores in the middle of the aisle of shopping centres, those that have the workers calling out "hey you there come over here so we can waste your time with things you didn't need when you arrived here and still don't need now." I mean, really, go away.

Oh and the sims choosing to do other activities than the one I tell them to do is annoying. I've also had to use resetsim for stuck sims a lot more in Sims 4 than I ever did in Sims 3. About 8 times all up in about 1/2 a sim day across both sims.

I did successfully manage to send my sims as a group from their home in Windenburg to the big park in Oasis Springs for the child to play on the play equipment there and for the mother sim to play as a space monster and back again ... great animations, plus the kiddo met some new kids. The whole parenting "influence child to do ..." and the praise/discipline interactions are also well done.
