Making money with the guitar - may be useful

Metro, I am trying to understand how you get the guitar player the challenge with the venues and parties.  I have done that plus a whole lot of other stuff, she has everything else, over 700 compositions and all of them known.  I read what you said and the guide said, but for some reason, nothing is changing.

I'm not Metro, but I'll answer anyway. 

From what I understand, the Guitar Star challenge is somewhat bugged.  The way that others have been able to complete it is to have guitar as the only skill so that no other skill opportunities will show up.  To successfully complete that challenge, you have to do 10 of the opportunities that are offered for guitar, like playing at an office party or sorting music at the bookstore.  If you have any other skill going on, the guitar opportunities are few and far between because opportunities for the other skills also appear.

Salty, I have completed Guitar Star with one Charisma skill in addition to Guitar skills, but it's not recommended. Like Pam said, and like I've been saying for months, this particular skill challenge is whacked out. One clear indicator that it's bugged is that there's no built in counter in the skill journal. How is one supposed to know how many more Guitar Opportunities need to be done to achieve the challenge? And another thing is that ALL Guitar Opportunities fulfill the Guitar Star Challenge. Sorting the music section at the bookstore clearly does not involve your Sim playing a guitar, yet that still counts towards the hocus pocus #10.

Oh, ok...thanks Pam and Metro.  I remember you saying something about that now.  She does do other things, I think she got called to play at one office party and that is where she got her last composition.  She has performed well over 600 compositions and she is making pretty good tips.  So now I understand and will quit fretting over it.  I need to read things more carefully from now on, lol.

You might as well break out your Magic 8 Ball for a solid answer on EA's intentions on this. Guitar Star has been busted since day 1, so they clearly know about it. I'd say, "Outlook not so good."

I may be a bit late in saying this as I'm getting that warning thingy but I really hope they don't fix it because I worked hard for that guitar star challenge  .

I am only level 3, but I'm getting a few tips every few seconds. It's a rabbit-hole, so you can't see what's happening, so I think because the game doesn't have to generate people, it just generates the "give money" thing.

Yes, this was discovered right after Late Night came out.  The most recent patch fixed it a little, but not much really.  Once you play the compositions a lot, you can easily make hundreds of thousands of simoleons in a day.

Now, I have the latest patch, I am wondering if by chance the relationship between number of performances and tip has been fixed, say limit to x amount.

Yes, you can do the same with playing piano or any other instrument.

Isn't it level 5 to play for tips normally?  I know you can play for tips in the subway at lower levels than 5.
