+/- Number Keypad Hotkey not working *Fixed*

So apparently, the +/- key on the Number Keypad is supposed to allow you to scroll through colour options on objects once you've selected them (but before placing in room).  Mine only seems to scroll the camera in/out.  I'm using PC and I've tried changing it to Sims 3 camera (one person suggested that this worked for them) but it does nothing.  Any ideas on how to fix this please?

Thank you for your help MrsFlynn however my keyboard is working just fine - it's just this one hotkey doesn't work and it seems to be a problem that's effecting a lot of other people too.  I just can't find anywhere or anyone that has a fix or an explanation as to why.   

It's the hotkey that allows you to scroll through the design options for an object before you place it in your room (in build mode) - it's meant to be the +/- buttons on the number keypad but all that happens for me (and many others) is the camera zooms in/out.  I don't know if this is a bug or something to do with my keyboard or if it only works for MAC users and not PC (I'm on PC) I don't know what.

I've heard of this issue before, and from all I've read is try the troubleshooting tips I linked to see if they help.

This is amazing........I just went back into my game and it's suddenly, magically started working.......I'm dumb-founded!  I have no idea why.....
