Laggy and buggy after 07/10 update
« on: July 13, 2018, 05:01:14 AM »
Hi guys,

I have been having some problems with the game for a few days now and I was wondering if it is the update or something else.

The problems:
- intermittently goes into not responding during loading screens, then always loads just fine, so not a problem on its own, but scarry
- lagging and dropping frames big time during gameplay
- during social events - not registering fulfilment of the objectives and ending the event on its own after a few sim minutes

I tried to repair but no effect. Not save-specific. There has also been a Windows update a few days ago.

So I was wondering if anybody else has had this and / or what thw solution would be, apart from reinstalling.

There have been reports on the Sims 4 Bug Reports forum of game lag even after this last game patch and other odd things happening in game.

It's been suggested to try playing in windowed mode, clearing game cache and delete the localthumbcache.package from the Sims 4 folder to help with troubleshooting

A Sims 4 factory reset has also been suggested. If that doesn't work and you feel the lagginess is game-related, you might be able to share your game save un-modded with the Sims team to see if it can help find a cause of the lagginess.

Tips for game lag and freezing are in the post below:

Relieve Freezing and/or Game Lag

If the tips in the linked post don't help, it may be a good idea to post about the issues on the Sims 4 Bug Report forum at Answers HQ.

Test first with mods moved to the desktop, or let them know that it's already been tested without mods. That's one of the first thing that they ask about.

Thank you very much for your response.

I do always play in a windowed mode, and I had already tried clearing cache, shortcut factory reset, clearing cache and repair, and I have zero mods. It helps to alleviate the lag / frame dropping for a while, but then it slowly creeps back.

It seems to be related to how bulky the save is though (like when my Sim has 100 friends, etc), so I am not sure if this is not a performance issue, although my computer easily exceeds the specs, and I have never had this before.

Maybe noteworthy, my game runs on SSD, and I never defrag (they say you should not), but it is hardly 40% full.

However, thank you very much indeed, it helped, and I am probably going to contact the Bug Report Forum from now on.

It could be a performance issue even if your PC exceeds the game specs. I still occasionally play my original game file with  32 generations of over developed sims played on them including one sim I call the "perfect sim" who has achieved every possible positive goal in game I can think of. That save is laggy and buggy based on game file size and age. I can't stand to part with it despite it's issues. I love that it has continuity from day one of my sims 4 hobby but I only play it now when new content comes out as to keep the "perfect sim" perfect.
