Sims 3 - Gameplay issues

The Sims 3 is still one of my favorite games but I've recently found that its been crashing much more often and for it to lag and to glitch. I can't find a main course other then I had to replace my cd version of the game into a online version. I understand that the game is quite old now and I haven't really taken to Sims 4 but if anyone has any suggestion on to help this issue of gameplay Ill be very thankful.

p.s gameplay itself is running at 60fps but with glitches (like the animal will t pose and ragdoll at times and stretch) and lag does not last long

You haven't really mentioned what troubleshooting tips you've tried, so here's a tips list to read over and try.
