Low Quality Graphics - RX 480
« on: April 20, 2017, 05:08:33 AM »
Hey guys!
   After 4 years i deciced to install again all the sims 3 games to my computer , altho im having some serious issues with my graphics. At first i had the GPU issue where the game couldnt recognize it ( running on RX 480 ) after a small research here i fojnd out this post http://www.carls-sims-4-guide.com/forum/index.php?topic=28104.0 : The guy has an inferior model to mine but the device id was the same etc so i jist edited the graphicscards/rules files and just changed the name to RX480 and that was all! Mission was succesfull my devicelog files had found 1 matched 1!
Logging in the game however was different. The options were all to high settings apart from the shadows and texture detail which was set to low! Tried changing it but i couldnt do anything about it , it said that i had to restart the game i did but still those two settings were resetting! After that i set them up to max again and went to a city to check the graphics from above , well they were awful like i hadnt changed a thing in the graphics menu!!

Any idea whats going on? Q_Q

You may need to try setting the options in the options.ini file itself. [Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3] If you haven't done so already. Do this while your not in-game. Then restart the computer.

If this works, you may want to keep a backup copy of the file. As the one in the Sims 3 folder will be reset each time you go to update the graphics drivers or have Windows updates.

Here's a post (link below) that tells you how to restore Sims 3 game options settings

How to save graphic settings?

Thank you for the answer Mrs.Flynn!

I found the file you told me to , but there are a lot of options and i don't know how to set every graphics option to max :( Could you please upload your own settings file if you play the game on max graphics so i can copy-paste it into the sims 3 file?

Thanks again

You won't be able to just copy/paste the file into your Sims 3 folder. It doesn't work that way, I'm not sure exactly why other than the file is assigned unique lastdevice numbers that are different file to file and if they don't match. You have to change the options yourself.

I did some digging into my file, here are a some of options that you may want to change in your file to see if it helps. (1 means low) (2 medium)  (4 High/Max)

terrainquality = 4

edgesmoothing = 4

visualeffects = 4

simquality = 4

lightingquality = 4

treequality = 4

drawdistance = 4

generalreflections = 4

texturequality = 4

Open up your Option.ini file and carefully look over these options above and change the number to 4 on all of these options in your file to have them set on high/max.

Thanks again for your answer Mrs.Flynn
I followed your instructions , changed everything you told me to change , but when im trying to open the game with the current settings it just wont open , i get the spinning circle on my cursor but thats it it doesnt load anything :(

**Update : After a mini search i found out that some settings must be set to 3 (High) and some others to 4 ( Very High ) managed to run the game but the changes do not effect the game! They are actually saved in the options.ini file but the game still looks like the graphs are set to low

Hi, Invisus.

I edited a set of Graphics Rules and Graphics Cards files that should help. Try the set attached to this post and see if it helps. It should match and enable the settings. If it doesn't help, we'll continue to troubleshoot.

Hope this helps and happy Simming! 8)

The files in the zipped file attached should work. Download and unzip. You can overwrite the current .sgr files with these. - Delete or overwrite the old graphic files with the new ones.

You may need to load the game to main menu and exit to make the Deviceconfig.log file be aware of the change.

Then the DeviceConfig.log file should be able to say "Found: 1, Matched: 1"
