Toddlers cancelling actions
« on: December 09, 2010, 09:57:37 AM »
I searched to see if anyone else had this issue, but my searching skills aren't the greatest, so apologies if this is a repeat.

Has anyone else ever had a toddler, when exercising free will, just stop and cancel an action and throw a fit? Here's an example:

a) Toddler would be playing with blocks.

b) One of the adult sims would come up, hug the toddler or whatever, and then go off to do something else.

c) The toddler would decide to go play with another toy, say the pegbox. On the way to the pegbox, the toddler will suddenly stop and sit down, then start throwing a fit. But if you click on the object they were heading to, or just have them move a few steps, then they go back to normal.

All needs were green, if not full, and there were no other sims interacting with the object the toddler was going to, and no pathing issues. Is this a common bug? It's not a game-killer, but it's a bit annoying, as I tend to let my toddlers run wild once they've maxed the pegbox and xylophone and had all the books read to them.

I've had toddlers do this too. No idea why. I just cue up a toy for them and they stop screaming.  :P
You've played too much TS3 when ... your 13 month old's babble sounds like Simlish!

Maybe they fell down when walking to their toy, got shocked and start screeming? Normal toddlers tend to do this. Sometimes Sims is so realistic that I get scared of it.

I played around with this on a family that just went corrupt on me, and it seems like it's a distance thing.  If the item you want the child to interact with is (for them) a good walk away, they just seem to forget about it.  If its a frustrating thing for you, you could place the items all in a smaller room (smaller then 6x6), and it shouldn't be a problem.

There are two things I do to keep this from happening, in your example of a parent hugging them, I then have the parent put the child down next to the item I want them to interact with.  If that isn't possible, I tend to queue the item up twice because I know the child will 'forget' about it along the way.

Thought if its a free reign thing, "as I tend to let my toddlers run wild once they've maxed the pegbox and xylophone and had all the books read to them"  there isn't a whole lot you can do because they seem to throw their fit for a few minutes and sometimes decide to do something else.  If left long enough they will but if you are like me and hate to hear a child screaming :D , I let them do what they want but I keep an eye on them just incase I need to requeue the action.
