Question about changing jobs

Was wondering, I got my sim who is a painter to the top level of her career but now I kinda want to have her pick up the writer career.  If I go back to the Painter job at a later date do I have to work my way up again or will it give me the same Job level I had before I left.  Thanks in advance for the help.

It drops you down 1 level. If your sim is a level 10 painter and you switch to the writer career and then come back to painting, you would return as a level 9 painter.
